Sounds like the owner was lucky to not be injured, it could have been far worse.. hope the Van driver is ok, mentioned injuries.

Not necessarily an excuse but “stopped in lane 3”?

Out of interest anyone experienced engine failure on a DSG? Does the clutch disengage or does it stay in drive?

He could have been in standing traffic in the outside lane when the car decided to die. In which case he would be left stranded in lane 3 when the traffic moved again.

Just not enough detail in the article to rule anything out.

In most cases it should be possible to coast to the hard sholder as long as the brakes are not locked on and you have enough momentum prior to the mechanical failure.

I think this is where the approaching motorist should be able to stop in the distance he can see. Which would be tricky if he wasn’t looking that way.

A dead engine stops a car pretty quickly if you don’t dip the clutch, I was just wondering how you could do that with a DSG.

I struggle to think how a DSG would get stuck in gear with engine failure? If it is using stop/start, I can drop into neutral with or without the motor running. VW T6 Transporter.

HR Owen open day, if I remember correctly. Cold tyres + heavy foot = oops.

A salutary lesson to us all. If we're honest, it's a bloody easy screw up when you're being egged on. There but for the grace of God, etc.
