Extend or not?

The warranty on my 2011 QP 4.7GTS is up later this month. It is a warrantywise platinum one, from the main agent where the car was bought, with a few extra bits like aircon, emissions and multimedia included. £100/hr labour rate and 5k per claim, no excess. It’s pretty comprehensive to be fair, and was claimed on by the previous owner when he had it (a member on here), for a few bits, so it does pay out if required!

There is nothing wrong with the car at all, it’s a really nice one, just passed 50k miles and recently been serviced and checked at autoshield.

So, as I’ve only had the car about 5 months with nothing going wrong, what are the views of longer term QP owners with the option of being able to extend (at an apparent 30% discount for being an existing customer) of approx £1600 for 1 year or £3100 for 2 years?
£100/year less for no multimedia cover, so £1500/2900 approx instead without.

Plus, if I decide to change the car in a 12/18 months, which I have no plans to at the moment I must add, I can sell privately with 6 to 12 months top level warranty if I get the 2 year one, arguably better than many independent dealer warranties, which should help considerably with ease of selling privately and being able to command a better price, in theory reducing the cost.
Thoughts?

Or build/use a war chest- that is what I did because I do not like insurance and that is what a warranty ultimately is.

Stick it in the bank and use for a rainy day. Even the best level of cover for a vehicle of this age will cover very little of the big mechanical issues which could go wrong. In short, its a con and you might never need it.

What he said. If you never need it, sooner or later you'll have a fund to help with the annual running costs anyway. If the car is as good as you say and obviously well looked after I think you've got to be really unlucky to get caught by a suprise failure. Due diligence and all that....
Cheers

I bought my car on a trade basis but was well advised. If everything checks out as it should then you're onto a winner. However, this will be my second QP so I have the hindsight of knowing the problems.
