Extended warranty

My ghibli warranty is up in June so I enquired about extending the warranty. It's £1980 for one year or £3000 for 2 years. I'm thinking this is a lot for a car that has barely had any issues. I'm also guessing you will be tied to main dealer servicing too..? Has anyone extended.?

Dont bother, Maserati will try and wriggle out of it anyway, PM the other Ghibli owners who will put you straight, Mr Micks, MAF260 and Outrun.

I've not extended yet. I've had a bunch of things done under warranty that I don't know what they'd have cost if I'd had to pay:

  • Headlight washer replacement
    Front spring replacement

I've also had an expensive steering pump failure that wasn't classed as under warranty due to the conditions it happened in. If it had been covered though it would easily have been worth the cost of the warranty. I would check what its likely to cover before taking out the extended warranty, and what Maserati would count as fair wear and tear. However if its going to cover things like the gearbox, steering etc, then its a gamble as to whether you think you'll have a problem. A lot of that goes down to how, and how many miles, you drive.

Once I get to a position where I'm offered a warranty extension I will consider it. It will depend on what happens in the meantime and how flush I'm feeling at the time.

For me the Maserati Warranty had been really good. I got a few small cosmetic things replaced at zero cost.

So I am very happy with it.

Buy a newer one. You won't believe the deal you can get. Add in the 3k over 2 years, plus the value of your car as it stands and you can likely get a one year old car with 2 years warranty and 10-15k on the clock for 5k or so. At the other end, you've a newer car with less miles so you'll see at least some, if not all of that money back again. It's a good time to do it.

Interesting thought outrun. Looking on Autotrader as a guide the difference between one like mine (around £30k, no real direct comparison as mine is quite highly spec'ed) and a newer high spec one (around £45k) means likely £20k to change, once the trade in price is taken into account....

Can't believe the ghibli is that 'old already'

I wouldn't pay almost 2k for a ghibli warranty- even the GT one is less that.
2k is a lot for a year- you would have to be pretty unlucky to rack up that much work wouldn't you?

The (diesel) engine is found (in lesser guise) in a lot of other FCA vehicles. Its the Maserati specific parts that will cost. I didn't extend the warranty on my Alfa GTA and that was good for 150k miles.
I will find out what they "reckon" is covered. By the end of the warranty I am guessing the car will have not far off 100k miles on it. At those milages I can see them claiming almost anything to be "wear and tear"

How many miles are you on now PR?

You can buy a 1 year old diesel easily for 35k, maybe less with a bit of haggling. If you take into account the 3k 'saved' over the warranty and add in 5k, that means you need to see 27k on trade in for yours. Given that a main dealer will sell a higher mileage diesel around 30k, you're in the ballpark. Now factor in the fact that in 2 or 3 years from now you own a lower miles, newer car and you will see some of that difference to change back again.

There are lots of cars around, haggle and barter, especially at month end or quarter end.

Yes all that makes sense. When I have briefly looked though, the £35k are for really low spec. Mine has carbon interior, convenience pack, privacy glass, 20" wheels, xenon / turning headlights. To get this spec on a 1y old car is (a) difficult and (b) expensive.
My mileage is around 49k now.

Steering rack was over £5000.

5,000 pounds to do the rack wow.
We were changing them and pumps under warranty down here.

On Ghiblis? Is there an issue?
A quick scout around 3rd party companies, one was £500 more and one was £400 less than the £3k.. so no bargains to be had there lol

Why not challenge the dealership to find you the spec you want for the price you want? Let them do the donkey work. Selling cars is sometimes an effort and they will know this!
