Also not sure if it's of any significant but the heater it self does work and I can feel the car warming up but the fan does not always come on

Might be worth taking that connection apart and remaking it, then.

I'd not think the heater working or otherwise is relevant. That's going to be controlled by coolant flowing through the matrix, governed by a thermostat.

Best of luck.

I think I've found the cable. I didn't disconnect it but jiggled it, started the car and it worked. Unfortunately I noticed that the carpet was very damp. I've seen some posts about blocked air conditioning ducts so I think

Ahh that's simple, but you want to fix it sooner rather than later.

Get in the drivers foot well, hand on the tunnel behind the HVAC controls. There's a big pipe that goes into the floor. Pull it out and drain it into the bowl you brought along. Oh, didn't I mention the bowl? Well you'd better go and get it now then, cos you have filthy mouldy leaf sodden water soaking into your carpet :)

Clean out the end of the pipe and plug it back into the floor.

At some point you want to get to the top bit where the fan is as well, but that's a bit more involved.

Thanks all. If i do go for it this weekend I'll let you know how I get on. I'm going to run her down to gt auto specialist in Burntwood to get a clutch wear check and get them to have a look at the brakes as they aren't quite as sharp as the wife's Volkswagen Tourane 1.6 diesel so I'll see if I have time.
