Are you doing it yourself?

It’s a pretty complicated procedure, you have to have it in a ramp, add the oil, heat the car to temp, use an infrared thermometer, and keep topping till it’s the right level. Definitely not a job on axle stands as the car has to be level.

The last one I bought was off Autodoc a full ZF kit with everything you need in the box.
Hook the car to diagnostic gear for the temperature of the oil and away you go.

Bloody **** that oil is expensive. I will check with Auto Alfa that they have it in bulk as opposed to buying 7l at £26 a litre. Phil are you able to confirm that this is all I need (plus fluid?)

Cheers bud!

Yes Chris and in real terms to keep the transmission in good working order it's not expensive.
Parts and labour to remove repair and refit will hurt lots more ££££££.

Yep. The extra parts are just oil.

Of course. Given it's the same box in some of the Alfas I rather feel they may have a barrel in the corner. I'll check :)

Arent the gearboxes on these non service items? The handbook quotes the gear oil then states "(2) No change and/or topping up expected in scheduled maintenance."

Yeah. That's the theory. Same on the GT but the view of my trusted experts (here and at Auto Alfa) is you're not going to lose anything by servicing it. Plus I think on the BMW it's 50k recommendation. Could be wrong.

If you like playing Russian Roulette obey the manual.
I've changed many and the oil is always quite dirty against the new oil.
Long life oils are as crazy as EV's trust me I'm a time served mechanic 45 years on the spanners and worked for several manufacturers.

I had a weeping gearbox bung back in 2017 at 53K which was sorted out and the gearbox "topped up", but seemingly the oil not replaced

Seriously if it's not been done I would put it on the list.
Ask for a sample of the old oil too.
I always put a little of the old and new in old plastic water bottles to show people.

We had our Mercedes auto done this year, even though the rec is at 70k miles.

Car is a 2016, with 20k miles, but the shifts are so much better now and they were good beforehand.

My local general place now welcome the punters supplying parts (assuming they are correct) as their place is full of cars awaiting parts and irate punters chasing up for things that pre Brexit and COVID were available same/next day.
