Whilst this car couldn’t be further from what a Maserati is famed for - Engine and exhaust sound, some on here did express an interest on my experience with my new Genesis Electrified G80 - although they were probably being polite!
Having had the new car since beginning of August, yesterday I had the opportunity to do a reasonable drive to the Cotswold Wildlife Park (always worth a visit) around 170 miles. The car is about as quiet and smooth and refined as you can get this side of a Rolls Phantom! The level of technology is cutting edge with level 2.5 autonomous driving, massage drivers seat, excellent sound reproduction from the Lexicon Stereo, and all the usual big screen infotainment tech found in all EV’s these days.
In terms of battery efficiency, it averaged 3.4 miles per kWh, so that took me from an indicated which would probably equate to a 100% to 10% battery range of a little over 260 miles - Genesis claim 320 miles, so probably in line with usual ‘real’ experience from manufacturers. So far I have only charged at home, so I have yet to experience the ‘delights’ of public chargers!
The overall build quality fit and finish are certainly equal to that of the usual German competition, with the depth of paint finish being a stand out point. Whilst the cabin has all the luxury that Genesis seems to want to have as their mark out feature, with use of white and green piped Nappa leather upholstery on the seats doors and dash etc, and a novel use of ‘forged’ wood trim.
As I said at the start, what this car excels at - total refinement and isolation from the outside, is not something that will appeal to the typical Maserati driver, but Genesis clearly intended to produce a true luxury saloon, and for the albeit few people such as ‘oldies’ like me (57), who want max luxury I/O sports car ride and handling, they have certainly hit the mark!
Btw it certainly catches a lot of attention, with the usual comment- is it a Bentley!! Unusually for me, I am using the car a bit more this month, as I’m due to go to the Isle of Wight next week, so will have another opportunity to try the car- usually I go one month to the next, with the car living in the Garage, so will assess accordingly, according to Genesis I am the first customer outside of the Far East to take delivery of one of these cars!
