Grandturismo S tyres

Been running the OEM Pirelli tyres since I bought the car, but am not over-impressed with the grip levels and overall mileage so was looking for an alternate.

A friend swears by Falken 452's, but unfortunately they don't do a 285/35-20, so has anyone got any other suggestions? I'm looking at fast road use only - not track, so a decent wear and wet/dry grip compromise.

I have Bridgestones on mine Potenza RE050 they have worn very well and much much better than Pzero. Continental do Sport Contact but i dont rate them.

Looking at 'tyrereviews' Michelin Pilot SuperSport seem to be well regarded and you can get them in 285/35-20.

So Falken deffo do not produce a tyre in the size(s) i need to the S, so my only real choices seem to be back to the P Zeros - rubbish mileage, or change to either a Potenza RE050 or Michelin SuperSport. Never been that impressed with Michelin as a performance tyre, but these do get decent reviews. Thoughts?

I've been doing a bit of research to ascertain what tyres I'm going to be putting on mine next. The two I plumped for are the Michelin SuperSport and the Goodyear F1 Assymetric2. It's a toss up but I know, and like, the Goodyears as I replaced the standard (cr4p) Bridgestone ditch-finders with them on my BM but they don't do a size in them for the GTS. Personally, my money would go on the Michelins.

I put falken 453's on the C63 for landow and its surprising how rubbish they were, even got told off for drifting and i didnt even know i did it. But they didnt seem to wear at all so for the road the are OK, but performance tyres they aint..

Have F1s before and they were good, but did wear quickly, they dont do them in GTS or C63 sizes tho

The 452s were quite good and they wear quite well. I've heard the 453s aren't as good so that's why I'm not fitting them, mind you the 452s don't get great reviews in 'Tyrereviews'. The F1 A2s get a much better write up than the F1 A1s. It will be interesting to see what a difference they make. I can't wait!

452's on a GS are brilliant but on the track they were lacking. I also heard that 453's were not as good as the 452, plus Falken have hiked their prices up now so for me the best all doubt tyre vs value are the Eagle F1 Goodies. Luckily I have a brand new pair in the back of the GS and will also be fitting them to the front when the Michelins have gone.

Tyre reviews with this new rating they come out in top overall too.

Hated PZeros on the GS but they did seam very good on the GTS if bloody expensive.

I used PZero's on my XJR and found them great, the PZero Rosso I have used on Maserati and found those great too, excellent grip, I think the standard PZero are a harder compound than the Rosso, so should last longer but may not grip quite as well..!! The Nero is the same, quite hard and not one that I rave about..!! Michelin have 2 tyres I would consider, the Pilot Sport 3, or the Pilot Super Sport and again it depends if they do them in the size..!!

I have Michelin on the front, seem Ok, but as I'm not racing on the track I don't see any issue with what's available as the choice is limited to 2 options and as the speed limit is soon to be rigorously imposed on the magic round-a-bout either will be fine for the cars abilities.

Have you thought about putting lower speed spec tyres on your Mas? OEM's profit from car manufacturers recommendations that the speed rating of your tyres should reflect the cars maximum speed. Hmmm. Where in GB can you do in excess of 150mph? (To reach a granturismo top speed of 177?).
So why spend more than you need to? Go to the tyre that reflects the maximum speed you think you will ever do whilst owning your chariot. I personally have never been faster than 138 mph in my M3 @ Nuremberg. In the UK, probably 120mph (on a private runway of course). Could save you £50 per tyre???

Personally, I reckon my well being is worth more than £200. If it was limited to 155 then maybe, but it isn't and I'm not going to put tyres on my bikes or cars that are rated less than the vehicle is capable of. I use the same principle with my crash helmets; sure you can buy one for £30 but, to me, my head is worth more so I spend £350-400.

There are only a couple of choices for the GT

Indeed only Pirelli and Michelin do both front and rear sizes.

I have Bridgestones on mine front and back - you can also get Continental Sport Contact and Dunlop Sport Maxx in the 20"

for the 19" you can get pretty much most major makes.
