GranTurismo 4.7 - Slight Engine Ticking Noise, Normal?

Evening All,

Question for GranTurismo 4.7 owners, when sat in the car and at a set of lights or stationary in traffic, can you hear a ticking noise in the cabin from the engine? It's not loud but noticeable enough.

I ask as right from owning the car I've had a ticking noise which seems to track the engine revs, it's most noticeable when the engine and oil is cold and quietens downs once warm but it still there. I'm not sure if this is normal or not? You can't really hear it with the bonnet up and its most noticeable in the cabin.

Car is a 2014 model, 11k on the clock. Oil was changed 100 miles before I bought the car, looks clean and is at the right fill level.

Car is going in for an investigation next week but just wondered if i'm being paranoid and this is 'feature' of the engine that they all have?

Interested to hear if anybody else has something similar?

Cheers,

Serk

They do tick for sure as do the Ferrari 430 engines, I spoke to Voicey about this when mine was in for a service. They all do that sir...... Of course yours might be louder than mine I just don't know. I feel a recording coming on.

...and relax!

:D

The funny thing is, I don't hear mine tick when sat in the car with the engine running at the lights as the Larini's are so loud! The only time I hear it tick is when I have the bonnet open at car shows so maybe there is an issue I don't know Serkie.

Mine too, mainly cold when I'm taking her out of the garage. I think it was less before the recent oil change, so certain oil types might alter the amount of ticking a little.

Thanks for the replies.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Perhaps it's just the way these engines are but I'm thinking it's best to get it checked out just to be sure. I took the car down to Maranello earlier on in the week and had it looked at but they didn't seem too concerned. Mechanic said it could be the EVAP system solenoid but would want it in to check from a cold start to be sure.

I'll try and get a recording of the noise.

Heightened noise only when starting from cold for a couple of minutes, then again the sport button is pressed 5 minutes up the road which makes it difficult to hear anything. :)

No clicks in mine, what's the 'common' trait then that makes them do it ?

open the bonnet and have a listen when the engine is running. If you *can't* hear a ticking, I suggest you get to an audiologist pronto :)

Every car injected car I've run has ticked, as the injectors are basically solenoid valves :)

Yes mine tick's and as Catman states it's probably the injectors.

Just to confirm, can you hear the tick in the car when stationary? I know what injectors sound like when the bonnet is up, just wanting to confirm it's those I can hear in the cabin.

If I listen carefully, yes.

Aye well I get that lol, but sat in the car and not with my ear pressed up against the block / manifold I don't hear anything, hence didn't think it was a trait in these cars to hear it, never heard anyone highlight it before.

Edit : to be fair my tinnitus is pretty bad plus I'm half death in my right ear

Mine is noisy when cold, very noisy in fact but inaudible once the engine has warmed up. A friend of mine commented on how loud it was when I started the Maser up. Not sure she had ever been in a performance car before.

Er, very noisy doesn't sound like a good thing. Especially if it's rattling or tapping.

Sure the secondary air system makes some noise, but shouldn't be tappy or rattly

Comes and goes for me since i have had it and currently I have ticking which seems to be since the weather turned. During the summer nothing and i recall after a service it also went away. There was a member on here who has since sold his Maserati that had it - he had the EVAP changed and i believe it went away. not an expensive part and will prob get it done next time its in
