My car has been in to Audio File and had a thorough re-wiring of the work done by Finsbury Car Audio. Gary says that the original install was worse than most he's seen done by the owners themselves, and everything has been re-done to a good standard, with photos to show the work.
Original issues included:
- connections made by wrapping the bare wires together loosely and taping
- cross-overs were just loose in the doors
- one cross-over was on the "wet" side of the door panelling, so no protection from the rain
- door speakers mounted loosely and with no soundproofing so they gave no bass
- no soundproofing at all
- the Focal tweeters that were part of the kit I paid for had been replaced by a random OEM pair. Since been back to FCA and got the real thing from them...bit awkward, but had to be done.
So Gary's lot fitted dynamat, re-wired everything properly, mounted the cross-overs correctly, re-mounted the door speakers with a baffle to ensure correct sound and fitted an amp for the front speakers so I can actually hear them.
All-in-all, they give a very good impression, seem to care about what they are doing and I recommend them. Oh, and they provided pictures of everything so I have a record of the work done.
Door panel before dynamat
Door panel after dynamat
Original fitting of crossovers
New fitting of crossovers
And the original fitting of the door speakers, big gap round them...
And some of the original wiring
