Granturismo replacement news

No Grancab and a 'more sporting, focussed' car. I'm not sure if this is what buyers of this car want - it will have to be fantastic to take on the 911/F-Type/AMG if that's where they are going. At the moment the GT offers a pretty unique combo of 4 seats allied with the performance.

Yes, it does seem rather odd they are vacating the niche they carved out with the current Grantursimo and moving into the crowded 911 space! :-( I guess they'll say the Ghibli and Quattroporte are their 4 seaters?

Are they keeping the current Granturismo in production to 2018?

Speaking to a MD local to me, the GT will end production in 2016. The Levante is due 2016 and the Alfieri looks likely to slip to 2017, that's what they told me last week

A more focused GT than the Stradale in standard form...Yummy......The Alfieri will have a convertible so seems to be taking over the old GT space......

It's going to have to be one fine car to beat the current one. And if it's sportier then I'd love to know where it would sit in relation to the Alfieri.

For all the flirting and drooling I do around other cars there still isn't one that gives me so much of everything with such beauty, character and tingly, shouty exhaust noise. Even the Strad, for all of its tweaks over the non-Strad variant, can't justify (for me, anyway) an extra £50k to change. Or £15/20k extra for two seats less. The new Granturimo's going to have to be one seriously versatile car.

My view as well.

Seems the new GT will be a two-seater like the Alfieri, but with more power and no convertible option?

IMO, The whole appeal of the Maser GT is that it can fit four adults comfortably.

Shame they won't be heading down that path with the new version.

Looks like the 4.7 S, MC Shift or Strad for me further down the track then.

All we do know is that the Levante and then the Alfieri are coming. Maserati have said that the GranTurismo will be replaced further down the line but it sounds like there will be a period of non-availability of a large four seater coupe in the Maserati range and you never know but if the Alfieri does well and the Ghibli can be given a bit more spice they might decide not to fill the hole. Hope not but possible.

As for an MC shift GT Sport or Stradale, I would guess that that gearbox will die when the GranTurismo ceases production - be it later this year or next year - as Maserati piggy backed this gearbox from Ferrari and the latter dumped it a while back.

Interesting bigbob. Didn't realize Ferrari dumped the gearbox a while back.

I was thinking more along the lines of buying a 4.7 Sport or Strad second-hand once production ceases at end of 2016 (assume this is the date)

I've read / heard...but momentarily the grey matter is failing me as to where... - that the GT will be continued into 2017. Will try and rack my brains for where I saw this......
