I think the point of the Grecale is the same as the point of the Ghibli. For me the Ghibli represented an attainable point to be able to own a new Maserati. Six years ago when I ordered my car, after options but before a healthy discount it was circa £70k. For the same money you were looking at E class 5 series, or in my case another Jaguar in the shape of the then second generation new XF. The simple fact why buy one of the usual executive saloon choices, all very capable but all too familiar and boring, when you can get a new Maserati which when fully specked does the luxury and exclusivity thing so much better, and the fact that it's got a diesel engine was not nor has never been since an issue!
The same will be the case with the Grecale, why have a common as muck BMW etc SUV when you can say you own a Maserati.
From my own prospective, I would like to stay with the brand but I will have to see whether the new electric 4 door that is rumoured will be affordable, or if as it's repIlacing both current saloons, if it's going to pitched beyond me into the 100k bracket.
A potentially Interesting alternative could be coming from Lotus. They are talking about launching a new 4 door electric coupe in the next two or three years (which like their planned SUV's will be made in China), but again like with the Audi E Tron GT, Porsche Taycan, and even the Tesla Model S, all come in near to six figures. It would be nice to see a new electric, which is now seemingly the only future, four door mid size exec starting around the 50-60 mark which historically has been the case. Instead we have what I can only describe as 'model creep' where the smaller saloons e.g. Polestar 2, Model 3, all cost as much as cars from the class above. The same goes for the new breed of electric hatchbacks in the shape of the ID3 or the bigger Ioniq 5, they all seem to be priced into a class above. I assume a lot of this is down to battery cost, but I can't help but think the manufacturers are sneaking in higher prices for higher profits.
Anyway to get back to this topic a bit more, I have to agree with many on here, SUV's really don't appeal although the Levente I was loaned in July drove very well- even if it looked and felt like I was driving a bus, and yet my neighbour thought it looked great. As I say, apart from something iconic like a Range Rover, I just don't see it.
