Hello to everyone. Just bought my first Maserati - 1998 Ghibli, 2.8, 6 speed manual. Bought it on the japanese auction and therefore I need to prepare myself to wait app. 3 months to see the vehicle.
Is there the way to decode the vehicle details (version, equippment, etc.) knowing the VIN?
I can pretty much guarantee that satnav radio unit is an after market Panasonic unit, i had one in my TVR its a good toy. nice looking car, i wish you luck with it.
Thank you all for kind welcome. Next week I'm expecting to get more photos from the shipyard - I promise to share them with you. I already e-mailed Maserati Italy with the request to decode the VIN for me, however the only document I have for now, that can proof me as a new owner of this vehicle is the invoice - hope it will do.
there isn't much information you can ascertain from the chassis number with regards to specification but the following information may be of use:
Your chassis number will start with ZAM - the Z refers to the country of manufacture, Italy. The AM refers to Maserati
Next will be the numbers 336 which refer to Ghibli
Next will be B00 which refers to Biturbo
On early cars the next 2 letters refer to the year and place of manufacture (Modena or Milan) but after 1994 this was not specified and you will probably see that your chassis number just has 00 before the next numbers
The next 2 numbers refer to whether the car is LHD or RHD, your car is LHD so will have 36 (40 would be the number for RHD)
The last 4 numbers refer to a particular car's production number
