GS Airbag Lights... both of 'em! *SOLVED*

Ah the fun of Italian electrics... hopped into the GS today and was presented with two airbag lights illuminated on the dash as below.

89535

Had the car with AV this week for an annual service... we used the battery cutoff switch when having a fiddle with the fan-heater connecting block, but no open heart surgery on the electrics or dash.

Seems to be more than a co-incidence that both airbag lights come on at once... fuse maybe?

EDIT: Fuses look OK. Battery is in a good state/healthy (tested this week also).

Thanks gents... looking under the seats is a bit beneath me, but I'll give this a go tomorrow and report back :)

You will still need an SD3 or equivalent to reset the lights I'm afraid... one triggered they remain on even if the fault is corrected.

Sigh, I was hoping you wouldn’t say that! I’ll add it to the pre-MOT list of items for AV…

A couple of my GTVs also did this, under seat connector, at least with the later ones it would reset itself without the need for diagnostic.

In the 156 I had it was notorious for the airbag light to go on from this. I’d have those checked as I heard this also happens in this car.

I remember that well from my 156.
To stop it going off was to have the passenger seat one click from as far back as it would go.
Don't ask me why, but if it moved from that position the light would go off.Too far forward, it would light up. Too far back the same.

Haven't a clue why. Never had the issue with either of my 147's or 155 or my GT for that matter.

Problem solved... called into AV today, turns out the passenger airbag switch (the left side of the dashboard, concealed when the passenger door is closed) is often the culprit. Twisting the key in this switch to the off position, and back on again often solves it - but as above, with the error code stored in memory the airbag lights remain on. Plugged into an SD3 and reset the lights, tested and no more lights :) If the problem persists, I believe its a £12 part to replace... subject to availability of course...

NB. The GranTurismo airbag switch part is almost identical - but won't work because the electrical connector is on the opposite side. We had one to hand and tried it, but no cigar.

Yep the usual culprit, and worth having a spare - the bugger is the light not extinguishing on its own when the fault is fixed. I think the part is common to an Alfa one

Let us know if the driver side comes back on- I know mine cleared when the 4200 went into service but then came back on a few hours later
