I thought again over the w/e about upgrading to a GT - and probably a GT-S - but then walked past one yesterday afternoon and it didn't take my breath away. As soon as I start thinking about spending 60K on a car, my mind turns again to that dirty mistress, the Nissan GT-R.

Maybe I'll wait a couple of years for the hard-core GT's to come down a bit in price.

Some GT R news for you PAT..

Dear Maser Sod

I think I can help you ........I'm a doctor. You appear to be suffering from a very rare condition which in its most advanced stage causes confusion and hallucinations. For example many patients start doing really weird things and very often inexplicable like even considering Mongrel Japanese super cars over one of the greatest thoroughbreds on the planet.....Maserati. The less sympathetic monitors here would immediately reprimand you but not me.

For a small fee(offer restricted to Sportsmaserati members), I am prepared to offer my services.

Yours sincerely

Ah yes Dr Urby , can you also confirm/deny that in the richness of time that the Gtr will or wont become a true performing classic in its own right , another 40 years will see Nissan/Datsun the same age as what Maserati is now , If Nissan were to spend another £1000 or two on the interior i too could easily be persuaded for a brief daliance

In 40 years time it probably won't help you. Certainly it will be too late for me. With cars like the Micra sharing the same stable I really don't think in even 40 years that it will have the cred. It is what it is ...... A great technological toy but a toy nonetheless less. I have been in the GTR and yes it is exceptionally fast but it lacks the passion and for me that is the most important ingredient and especially when only a lunatic would dare to explore the potential of such a car on a public highway. I have a friend who has one and he races but he uses a modified Porsche 944 and never the GTR.......quite simply the tyres are around £600 a wheel and any impact to the front results in a around £10,000 for a new bonet safety mechanism............not a practical car and very ugly............sorry

If Nissan sorted the interior, I would consider this car more seriously.

The exterior is MARMITE but for me, I like it and the performance cannot be denied.

Maseratis problem is they are one piece in the FIAT jigsaw, so they are limited as to what they can an cannot do.

If Maserati were a stand alone company or were allowed to let their true talent be realised, I think you would see something along the lines of a car to rival the GTR, penned in the most evocative body on the roads today, but as it stands, Maserati have to fall in line with the Ferrari as the little sister brand.

Urby, you say the GTR comes from the same stable as the Micra. This is true and good for the brand. The revenue this brings in allows them to realise their sports models.

There is also the flip side to what the FIAT brand brings to Maserati. Without them, and more importantly Ferrari, the marque would probably not be hear today, so for that we have to be thankful I suppose.

As i understand it Nissan have or are thinking of recalling the late 370Z and the GTR's to have the front safety mechanism altered in some way , i agree ludicrous as it stands , even the gentlest of frontal bumps results in a minimum £10k bill

Thats correct Loz.

The GTR has this pedestrian system where gas struts throw the bonnet up to cushion a person hitting it. If you hit it, only at parking speed, it triggers and you have a big bill.

Most people are having it disabled upon purchase, sensible if you ask me.....maybe not so much for the pedestrian!

i drove a GTR, i had it for 3 days, i loved it............the power is something that for me will not be beaten for 70k.......

go for a 2010 car and all the warranty work is bang on, and also service every year now as opposed to every 6k...........

I think the GTR is an amazing car. Sure, it doesn't have the brand name of Maserati but then most people think Maseratis are problematic cars which spend most of their time at the dealers and then rust. The GTR is a far more dynamically capable advanced car and blows all Maseratis (with the possible exception of MC12) into the weeds. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows what a Maserati is and also know what the GTR is. Sorry to say this on a Maserati forum, but just because we're all fans of the marque and own or have owned at least one, Maseratis are not the best cars in the world. Sadly they will also never be given the direction of the company - which I really hate!

Welcome to SportsGtr.................We will have to beg to differ in our opinion. Maserati is a gentlemens express.....GTR for me means boy racer in the same vein as Suburu and Mitsabushi.........all fantastic achievements technically and very very fast but alas all three of these cars are lacking class and style and they will never achieve that.Just my opinion and it is different opinions that make the world go around

I would never buy the Nissan. Can't see that it competes with Maserati in any way.

I agree ....... Most of those passionate about Maserati are unlikely to be excited by a GTR and visa versa. They are two totally different concepts.
