GT Vs GS

I have a GT (2008).
Anyone out there who has owned a GT at some stage and also a GranSport? I would be most grateful for their observations on the merits or otherwise of one or the other.
Ideally I am looking for a GS Spyder owners experience.

Reasons: I am more accustomed to "smaller" cars that give more driver feedback than some of the more salubrious, larger cruisers. Secondly, I hear that the GranSport Spyder is already well on its way up the investment curve whereas the GT's are still sliding down it! Thirdly - I love softtops - even with scuttle!

Thanks in advance.

Spyder and GT (even the GranCabrio) are entirely different animals, given that the Spyder only has 2 seats and is about a foot shorter even than the coupé GS. Depends entirely what you'll be using it for / how often you'll get to use it if you frequently drive more than 2-up.

Only ever had a 4200 cc..and now a GT.... but driven quite a few GS....The GS a much better sorted car all round... appreciably better than the standard Coupe...

But day to day the GT better to live with - other than it's size...

I don't mind the flabby auto etc as I'm now beyond driving to the max .. (on the road at least) .. and for the track there's always something more focussed..

To my mind, speed, handling on the limit etc are all a bit academic for road cars at least... and the "investment" argument is just something we use to assuage our guilty indulgence.....

The Joy of these for me at least, is that they are rare and pretty - and in that respect the GT scores highly... I was told that the original concept design for the 3200 was something the designers had knocked up for Hyundai...-who didn't want it... and when Maserati were looking for a Coupe in a hurry they took it on and breathed on it a bit..

To my eyes - and here we may get contentious ...the Spyder never looked "quite right"... and the Gransport - for all its improvements looked like the marketing boys had got hold of it and asked for something that looked "more aggressive" - "more sporty".... If you want all those skirts and spoilers and vents - buy a Subaru ...The elegance of the original concept had been lost... And its the same all over... the first e-types were bliss... later ones not quite as lovely ... same for modern Jags and most marques today..

When the original GT was launched jaws dropped.... later versions... in my opinion at least, kind of lost something - as works of automotive art...

So... If I was looking for a Maserati with "investment potential" that was sharp and a hoot to drive...I think I'd be looking at the 3200... which retains the purity of the original design...

Or I'd just keep the GT... I've a feeling that if they are looked after time will be kind to them... they remain i think one of the prettiest cars ever made... and always get a reaction....

Fangio: excellent post - thanks for that.

Anyone out there who owns a GS Spyder care to talk about their baby?

: )

Think it was just a bit of banter, Dem...pinch of humor in the mix there somewhere.

So, Zoros what are you aiming for with the car? Sounds like you want a soft-top rather than a GranTurismo or a GS?

Zoros, you're a fortnight too late. I sold two Gransport Spyders recently, they're lovely and have their own unique manner, but in my opinion, a GS coupe is a better driver's car. I've driven lots of all of the range as I'm sure you appreciate, and I'd choose Gransport every time. If I was doing long motorway journeys I'd have a GT, but for mixed driving or weekend blasts, a well-sorted Gransport is near perfection.

Hi Richard,

Hows life? Extension coming along nicely?

To be fair, I have to give the GT a run for its money - so a while longer yet eh? But I know where to come for a spyder!

Dem - do you honestly think I was serious there? The printed word eh?

All good here Zoros thanks, I trust all's well with you. Extension not yet started but getting closer. I do have a lovely spyder coming in at some stage this year too, keep it alongside the GT, sure there's room for one more in the collection :)
