Gutted

So after spending all morning cleaning and detailing my GTS I popped out to run a couple of errands. This involved parking on a busy street and when I came back I found someone had done this

Looks like they banged into my bumper on the passenger side when manoeuvring out of the space behind me. No note left and nobody around that could tell me who did it. I've had a look around and no CCTV on the street either so it looks like it's up to me to either sort out myself or claim on the insurance. I'm guessing that I will need a new bumper and looking at Eurospares it's nearly £1K plus VAT for the bumper itself. I have no idea if a good bodyshop could sort it out so may have to give Emblem a call to see who they use.

Gutted is not the word.

NOt a back price add another couple of hundred for the painting and you'll be right, have you not tried a bodyshop for a quote?

That's shocking, looks like they forced their way out so they must have have known they hit you. Soon we will need cameras all round the car.

Not yet...I need a good quality bodyshop but not one that will charge me an arm and a leg. I may have to swing past one that I've used a few years back and see what they say.

I have similar damage to my daily driver after my son backed into a wall. The bodyshop reckon that they can repair this type of damage rather than a full replacement - it's about half the price.

Not had it done yet but might be worth looking into.

Excellent....that's cheered me up that it's not a high value replacement. I would rather sort it out myself and not go through my insurance. Once I've paid the excess the insurance company would only be contributing a few hundred pounds and then the dreaded renewal increase would kick in.

That's good to know...I trust them with my mechanicals and thought they would know a good bodyshop. Will give them a call in the morning.

Anyone can missjudge or make a mistake when parking, but to drive off afterwards is inexcusable- they need locking up

I posted elsewhere that I have just had a dashcam fitted that monitors my car when it's parked, front and rear motion sensors that somehow capture the 10secs before and 50secs after any movement or impact, I went with Thinkware F750.

Good luck with the repairs, hope they are not too painful.

Really sorry to hear this - it seems to be more & more of a common theme around this forum lately. I hope that you get it fixed up & looking sharp again soon

FFS. That's inexcusably rude. Accidents happen but to run away afterwards is ******. Admittedly the bumpers are pretty bendy and prone to splitting, but there's no way anyone with any sense would not have noticed what they were doing.

I succeeded in inflicting similar damage on my back bumper once. Managed to buy a mint one for £50 (don't ask... long story) and for not much ££ got it painted and fitted by a good bodyshop I had used before.

I'd check at Eurospares / David Askew in case they have any good rears from cars they are breaking. Look on the Eurospares website but don't waste your time emailing them They're cr4p at following up and need a kick in the ar5e, frankly, but if they have what you need it's worth the ball-ache of dealing with them.

Alternatively I'm sure a good smart repairer could fix it so well you'd never know there had been a mishap.

Good luck.

As others have said, we can all have "off days" parking but to ignore damage to others cars is IMO sadly a sign of the times we live in where disregard for others is becoming more common place unfortunately :(
Hope it is not too expensive to fix.

If you want the number of the guy that painted mine I'll happily pass it on , I did a 500 mile round trip to get it done and having seen the quality of the work I'd make the same trip again without question if I need anything else painting

He's in Waterlooville

That would be great...Waterlooville isn't too far from me.
