i dont think oil will run out in my generation.
I wouldn't be so sure my young friend.
In 2001 planners from a major corporation calculated the available energy resource for renewable energy technologies across the world. They found that it is renewables that hold the potential to power a future world populated with 10+ billion people (currently 6 billion), not fossil fuels. This could be achieved even if all of them used energy at levels way above the average per capita consumption in the EU today. It is renewables that will be making energy insecurity a thing of the past. Probably the most important thing about this study is that the corporation in question was.... Shell.
Oil consumption is predicted to exceed production as soon as 2014. Realistically, you are probably right that none of us here now will likely see the day that the last barrel of Oil is consumed. However, considering the basic fundamentals of supply and demand, it is more likely that we, the man on the street, will be priced out of the market and will be left with no option but to pursue renewable/alternative sources of energy. To extrapolate this theory to the 'enth degree, can you imagine the price of the last ever barrel of Oil?
So, if you fear change - the
sad thing is that hybid tech, electric vehicles, etc are inevitable.
However, if you embrace change, it's an exiting concept that needs to be grabbed with both hands to continue with and improve upon our lives, it's simply the evolution of energy.
Just like moving on from steam engines and the like....
