My headlamps are awful, just me? Anything I can do to improve them?

Put some decent bulbs in - Halfords do good prices on a trade card, and they make a surprising amount of difference.

Is it possible to fit the 4200 light unit with HID's? or maybe the 4200 projector HID unit into the 3200 light unit.
Just a thought.

You could in theory. However as discussed on here there is talk of xenon HID lights being added to the MOT including the self leveling and wash. If it comes in and you have retro fitted as suggested it would fail and need to be reverted to standard. Phil in Bristol may be abke to up date us in this as he was involved in the consultation.

My wash , on the Merc, was checked as part of its MOT this year, sure they said was from April.

I bought a set of High Output Lamps which had Xenon technology, but didn't need any electronics, they were brighter and more expensive than normal (3200AC)

Where did you get them, just out of interest? I tend to agree the lights at not the best.

I bought them at a local auto spares shop, Motosave I think it was, but such as Halfords and other places should keep them in. Have a quick look online and see if you can see any, bulb technology is advancing all the time. These lamps were whiter than normal and quite bright..!!
I think from memory the cost me about £25.00 for the pair..??

i have a hid kit on mine, not road legal, but oh well, not the sort of car to get that checked on by police, mot yes, but just remove it for the mot if you have to.

All HID kits are now legal as the MOT requirements were backed down to be virtually meaningless. The MOT law now states that a kit fitted to a car MAY have to have washers and self levelling, not MUST have them.
Ask your friendly MOT station to print off the relevant page.

Yep true!

I must admit after being used to Xenon's the 3200 standard lights are woeful. Would love to upgrade them and think it's on the list of mods.

Plus old bulb tech gets dimmer with age / use. The filaments vapourise and coat the inside of the bulb, blocking a proportion of the light.

It's also possible (I guess) that the lenses at the front are hazed.

Thanks again all... are the bulbs easy to change? I'd heard they are a pain to get to? Think the lenses are fine, just old bulbs and possibly poorly adjusted...

Hopefully you are lucky enough to have the heavy flaps on the inside front of each front wheelarch, held by heavy velcro, if not you take the arch liner out..!!

I get asked "Would you like a Xenon conversion fitted? They transform the headlights, but, cost around £200 for the kit, and a few hours to fit."... should I do this?
