Guys, to save me sifting through the internet, can anyone tell me where I get the Xenon bulbs from, I have my drivers side one that has gone pop.

Should I replace both and assume I go in from the wheel arch to replace it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt,

I remember Emblem stating that it was rare for one of these bulbs to fail. Often they found the cause to be with connections or the high energy unit located behind the light.... Worth checking. If it is the bulb and you only replace one, it is possible that you will see a difference in colour when comparing the two. When sourcing a bulb kit for my QP a number of places were recommended. However some had ceased trading and others didn't actually list the headlamp bulb at all. (See bulb thread) In the end I asked Emblem to supply the kit but this did not include a replacement for the headlamp. Apparently they are £100 each.

Regards,

Paul

Frank, you are the man. At a tenner for a pair, might as well just buy them.

Oh, just seen, that is for the high beam, its the dip I need, bummer!

I'll do a how to guide on how to replace them. I might just buy the £40 ones and swap them anyway, as they are an upgrade.

..so.....just to clarify......you need one bulb of two......the dip.....?

How come the main is so much cheaper than the dip off the bulbs David listed?

Maybe add all details to the original post on bulbs?

Frank, the HID bulbs should be replaced in pairs as they will be different colours plus the chances are if one has come to the end of its life, the other wont be far behind, and it would appear that only the dip beam is HID and the main, would appear to be Halogen even though they have HID or Xenon in the title.

I was under the impression Xenon's were supposed to last years! Isnt your car an 06 Matt? While technically, 4 years is "years", I was lead to beleive they'd have a longer life than that!

Out of interest, do these lights have a 'switch' for driving in Europe? I know my M3 xenons had a switch, but does a GS or is it a case of getting the insulator tape out?

Woody, it is 2006 and I hardly use the thing. Had a chat with Mike Roberts and he has also said that it is not the bulb, more likely the transformer thingy.

You can get a replacement for about £35

HID or Xeno bulbs are £££ but as you state they last far longer than filiment bulbs as the light is an arch suspended in Xenon gas...So no filiment to break. The ones David H lists are NOT the HID bulbs but the other ones in the front clusters.

I have a 'Lazy' bulb which at times does not fire on start up, but at £100 per bulb its not worth cahnging as it only fails 1 - 2 per year.

HID Bulbs have a burn temp which changes the hue of the light, the higer the temp the more blue the colour of the bulb. Origional Maserati units will burn at the same temp and as such can be replaced one at a time...if you buy none OEM parts you may get a colour inbalance which is a MOT fail.

I would sugest swapping the bulbs to ensure the balast has not failed, this is the pulse generator that starts the arch. BUT BE AWARE there is a huge amount of amps involved and there is a real chance of an electric shock far worse that a 12v one from the rest of your electrics.
