Hi all,

Just registered for this fine forum having spent the last year dipping in and out of "another" forum.

I have owned a 2003 CC for about a year now and like a fine wine, it keeps getting better all the time. I also like the fact that a few people here are not afraid to do some work on their cars themselves. Having built my other car, a Caterham, I am reasonably confident on the spanners; I guess the wisdom is knowing when to defer to the experts because 1) they know more and 2) the next owner of the car will be more convinced by some bills than my efforts!

I am loving this car; after a long series of Alfas, Italian cars are firmly in the blood and this one makes every journey special. I use it every day, probably covering 10k miles in a year; so far it hasn't missed a beat. Perfection would probably be some slightly stiffer springs and the FD DBW module, but it'll be a while till I can justify them.

Lastly, and I know its probably impolite to ask, could somebody discretely explain why there are now two forums - not that I am complaining!

Hi Dominic (is it Dominic or Dom?) A warm welcome to the forum! Many on SM cut their teeth over on MF, but found that it wasn't ticking all the boxes. Some of MF's most active members decided that there was a more all-inclusive way to 'curate' an enthusiasts forum and this is the result. It's not really been going that long but it's growing at a tremendous rate. This is a very sociable forum. Maserati will always be the centre, but there's so much more to chat to like-minded people about. Just check out the various threads and you'll get the picture, but always, if you have a question, a concern or a life or death Maserati problem, there will always be someone here willing to help. Also if you want to off-load, then that's fine also.

Anyway, tell us about your car. Fine wine, yes that's a nice analogy.

Cheers, Miles.

Morning Dominic, welcome - good to hear someone else is running their Maser every day. I don't know how those who drive other cars on the 'in between' days can cope! ;)

Thanks for a very warm welcome everyone. When I get my act together I will find some pics of the cars and upload them.

Hopefully I will be able to add something to the forum as well as just take!

I did discover something a while ago which I posted "eleswhere", but it bears repeating. Being a suspicious type, I had noticed rust on other cars around the rear lights and wanted to make sure I had nothing brewing in the same way. When I took the lights out, I did find a tiny spot of rust (2mm diameter) behind some untidy seam sealant just on one side, but about 3cm inside of the externally visible bodywork - cue healthy application of Waxoyl. In other words, by the time the problem is visible, it has been worming its way back for quite some time. I am sure my car won't be the only one, so I would have thought worth an early check!

I have also been reading the recent posts on CC clutch changes with interest. I am sure mine has nearly run its course; I often get the dreaded squeal pulling away in first and even with sport engaged the whole time. there is often audible slip on light throttle loads. I wouldn't dare do this myself and will be giving the car to Emblem who know it well. I am sure I will love the car even more if I didn't have to wince every time I pulled away from the lights!

Thanks for the pointer on the rear lights Dom, I already have a small bubble just below the cluster, so I'l check further. Re the clutch and Andy's comment above, come to Llandow and send it off in style :) That's what I'm doing! Cheers, Miles.

I'd love to, but will be in France with the family on holiday.

I am always up for a track day though.

Afraid not - roof box, bike carrier and the kitchen sink would look a bit daft on the Maser!

I think we will take my Wife's A4 Avant

Yes, that's probably prudent. Still, something to look forward to when you get back! Hope the weather's kind. Cheers, Miles.
