Hi folks,

I joined up a few days ago so thought I'd poke my nose round the door here and say hello.... a long time fan of all things Italian, particularly Maserati, Alfa and Lamborghini, currently own an Alfa as my daily hack but am considering the ins and outs of Maser ownership at some point in the future. Also have a couple of classics in the shape of a '60s Cooper S and a '70s Jaaaag XJ6 (talk about chalk and cheese).

Over the past few days I've been delving fairly deeply into the 'general chat' and '3200 & 4200' threads trying to pick up some tips and I have to say what a decent bunch you Maser owners are, there doesn't appear to be an ounce of argie-bargie anywhere, unlike some other car forums I frequent. There is definitely something 'different' about Maseratis and the people who have a passion for them - vive le wotsit and all that!

Looking forward to learning more as I delve deeper into the forum archive and with a bit of luck might find myself piloting a Maserati, hopefully sooner rather than later. I know I'll have to have a serious reshuffle of my current cars / priorities, but the thought of stepping into a 3200, 4200 or (at a stretch) even a Gransport at some point is already doing strange things to my car mojo. A couple of years ago a mate and I stood utterly spellbound looking at the Maserati Club display at the NEC Classic Car Show, the cars on show that weekend were stunning in the flesh, if any of those car's owners are on here then a big 'thankyou' wafts its way in your direction for showing off such magnificent machinery, which a lot of folk would otherwise never get to see. I still look at the photos I took that weekend and the old ticker skips a beat everytime...!

Cheers,

Nidge ;O)

Hi Nidge,

Welcome. Lovely selection of cars especially the Mini, I learnt to drive on my dad's Mk3 Cooper S that he had converted by Downton from new. I have a 1991 Cooper that needs work or needs to go to make way for an older Cooper at some point!

A few of us are meeting up towards the end of the month http://www.sportsmaserati.com/showthread.php/16410-Banburyshire-Meet and Rugby isn't that far away at all.

In any event if you would like a close look at a GranSport to help you decide just let me know.

Regards,

Robin

Thanks for the very warm welcome gents ;O)

Robin, nice to know you have a classic Cooper in your stable - I had a late Cooper Sport a few years ago which was a hoot to drive, at the time it was the newest Mini I'd owned and the first on 13'' wheels, it was quite a twitchy b*gg*r compared to the thirteen Mk1s, 2s and 3s I'd had up to that point, including a Mk1 1275 S which i regret selling to this day. The Mk2 S I have now more than makes up for it though, there are some pics of it and some of my others here... https://www.flickr.com/photos/21403537@N00/sets/ ... check out the three Mini albums.

I saw the Fenny Compton meet up thread when I was browsing earlier today, I'll definitely be there on the 22nd, possibly in the Cooper S if the new battery will behave itself, failing that I'll be in the trusty Alfa (sadly it's only a diesel but hey, at least it's Italian!). Looking forward to meeting some faces and ogling some quality Italian metal.

Depending on how things pan out workwise this year / into next year, I'm most likely looking at a 3200 or 4200 as a first step into the great unknown of Maser ownership, although a GS would be just the ticket. I've been looking on AT and PH though and am quite taken with Richard Grace's 3200 AC, and whilst in Coventry this morning I was drooling over a dark blue 4200 at the BMW dealer on the Holyhead Road. Naughty, but nice... ;O)

Only been here five minutes and already I'm being regailed with 'Benny's sausage'.... am I on the right forum...? !!!

Nidge

PS! thanks for the kind offer of a butcher's at your GS ;-)

Welcome on board. Regardless of which you choose of the "early" new style masers, so long as you choose it for the right reasons knowing the pros and cons then you will love it, there is no feeling like sitting in one and all 3 are superb in their own right! Just watch out if you make the wise choice and go 3200.........Benny will never forgive you, so you can forget going for dinner! Lol

Maybe if this gets a good turnout it may be more of a regular thing, it would suit me.

Hi Nidge,
A warm welcome to the forum, you will not go wrong looking on here for advice on any Maserati..!! The 3200 AC is an exceptionally good car, will road race anything and either beat it or at least keep up with far more expensive machines..!! You will get a good car from Dicky Grace and good advice, he will also attempt to source you a car if you tell him what you want..!!
Cheers

Thanks again for the welcomes chaps, and thanks for the tip re Mr.Grace Robert! ;O)

I'm going to have to have a good old think regarding finances, the house currently looks like the Luftwaffe have been over for a shuftie and the garage needs finishing off internally (no electrics yet, shame on me!) so it's early days yet, but I'm glad I've made the first step by registering as a member on here... ;O)

I've just ordered the 1999-2007 era Brooklands road test Maserati book on Amazon which should be an enjoyable read / gander if the 1957-98 books are anything to go by.... ''I must not daydream about Boras... I must not daydream about Boras...etc, etc'' ...!
