HELP! CEL light on Fans come on all the time

I have a 2002 4200 with 74000 miles. my CEL light came on yesterday, also noticed now even when cold my fans are always on.( starting from cold)
differcult to start from hot, ok from cold. Any one know what is wrong. Car seems to be running ok.

Thermal switch, perhaps. I think you need to plug it into an OBDII reader. Plenty are available from cheap, to work with your phone, but of course your local indy would be able to help.

Rarely, I'm afraid. I think there are some other members closer, but there may be an indy nearby.

Thank you I hope it is switch or thermostat. Does any one know how to get to either as I cannot see where they are?

It's actually called a fan motor resistor. You can get at it from underneath. If you look between the fans and the engine it sits between the 2 fans towards the bottom of the unit. 2 wires (2 connectors) and 2 screws to remove. From memory you can also use the Alfa 166 part.

I had a similar issue, can't find the thread i made but i think i changed the resistor, thermostat and water temp sensor and that sorted it, all parts came from eurocarparts
