Hi All,

My car was released from the container yesterday and I got a Transmission fluid level is low message and saying not to drive. And when trying to engage the gear to 1 or R it goes back to N immediately.

I was trying to determine if I could still drive the car until I could get it checked out. ??

Hint: The car was shipped to UK in a container.

is this a Transmission failure. ??

please help me.

The car is 2006 QP, F1 gear

Is the symbol a small red gear box?

If so it could just be low fluid as you state, rather than a failed box.

However if it will not stay in gear you will not be able to drive it anyway?...bet get it recoved to an indi

Saif,
The duoselect warning for low gearbox oil level is a red gearbox symbol with a dipstick over it...
The gearbox itself, and the duoselect system is at the back of the car for weight distribution purposes and the filler is quite difficult to get to...
as previously suggested, best thing to do is get it to an independant or main dealer to check/top up the level as necessary,
the capacity is only 0.33L for the duoselct system (2.7L for the gearbox itself), so not a big amount goes in there...
I would also be interested in finding out if there are any lealks...or why the level is low, let us know how you get on,
Regards,
Enzo.

Not 100% sure it is the same layout P...
The book recommends SAE 75W90 (ROTRA LSX) for the gearbox
and oil type CHF, AGIP CHF 11 S for the duoselect system

Enzo.

Thanks all for replying

the thing is i have maintained the car before shipping it, and every thing was fine.

So i dont know why this came up.

btw i didnt see the car until now, the shipping company guys told me that when they unload it from the container, and tried to drive it away.

i will go on monday to see whats wrong with it. !!

A bit strange that the low fluid light comes on, check with who maintained it before shipped?

Things to try

Battery reset for 5 minutes
On switching the battery back on listen for a whirring sound coming from under the boot , its normal and is the F1 pump

Stamp on the brake pedal a few times and then turn on ignition , wait for all the lights to go out and then try and start engine and select gear

If no whirring check fuse and relay working ............. if both ok pump is probably buggered or stuck
If whirring and still unable to select gear jack rear of car up

Check F1 fluid level , underneath the rear of the car along side gearbox on the passenger side you will see what looks like a small tin can with a plastic lid , its a knuckle grawncher but remove lid and put your finger inside as far as you can , if no fluid fill to the top with a gearbox type filler bottle ( you know the ones with the tube , adapted my tube to be 2 ft long makes it easy BUT MAKE SURE you use correct hydraulic oil

hope this helps , if all was working pre shipment then chances are something probably just stuck and its a simple fix

Saif, is there a Maserati dealer where you live? If not Alfa Romeo garages may have the equivalent, if not then note the grade and weight of the fluid listed by Enz in a post above and buy the best quality one you can at a motor factors.

The alfa hydraulic oil is okay to use and around £8.00 for half a litre , when i fitted new pump to the 4200 the system was drained and refilled , fotunately no bleeding was necessary , i have been told that its a self bleeding system

I found a Maserati Service center near my town, i will buy the oil from them.

then i will go to the car and do what you told me to do, i wish everything is fine, otherwise i will have to take it to the dealer or independent workshop.

Thanks alot mate.
