Help, looking at a 3200

Spoke to Mathew from Giallo and he was incredibly helpful. The cars most recent history was carried out by them. This included Clutch, 2010 (6000miles ago) and service, 2012 (2000miles ago).
£12,000 for a revised manual is a fantastic price... what could possibly go wrong! haha.

I have to disagree on this. It's part of the manufacturer's service schedule and IMO very important to the overall attention the car has had. There are plenty of things on cars which don't appear to require servicing/replacing, but we change them anyway as recommended. The only reason people fail to change the chains is cost. I wouldn't touch a 3200 that hadn't had the chains done at 68k as I would always be wondering what else the owner had skimped on.
i changed the chains early on my 3200, at about 55k from memory. The engine was out due to a snapped bolt in the head, so it made it more cost effective to have the chains done at the same time. I sold the car about a year later and with about 60k miles. I got absolute top money for the car; the buyer didn't even try to negotiate on price due to the condition and service history of the car. One of the times my OCD was beneficial!!

Totally agree...... can't think of a more important part of the servicing schedule than to make sure the chain is changed as per schedule. If the cost is an issue then go for a 4200

Hey all, my hunt continues, the first 4200 was not great and I think if I am going to get 4200 then I should go for a cc.

so, I am currently torn between two cars, a 3200 which has 65000miles on the clock but not had the chains done, few stone chips etc but in lovely condition and colour combos. And a 4200 which I haven't seen because it is 200 miles away...

Anyone no of the car? I have had a long chat with the dealer and it is described as mint, everything works and full service history. He is not sure on clutch wear but getting back to me.

4200 or 3200, the dilemma! I am so confused!

4200 is going to cost you less to run, there is no question of that unless you buy a complete dog.

3200 vs early 4200 for drive and feel, I think I would go 3200 AC, Dem has one for sale that needs little to bring it up to scratch.

There not unreliable Sam,but you do have to carry out more preventive maintainance than an early 4200,go for the late 2001 model year!

Sorry Dave, you are quite right, as I don't drink, smoke or do anything remotely fun I am more than happy to spend money maintaining a lovely car!

Sam,
If you are going down the 3200 route, you could do a lot, lot worse than looking at Dem's 3200 GTA AC..!! The AC is an excellent car and all were the latest release with all the updates and a lot more..!! Being a forum members car you can be pretty sure it has been looked after too, car dealers...who knows..!!
Cheers

Agreed Dem's car would be a great choice. The main difference of the later cars to the early ones is an improved Steering rack and better brakes. To be honest I like having a car built in the 90's :D In the years to come it will just sound better '99 rather than 01.

There were a few other improvements too which made them a little easier to drive, like the throttle upgrades on the later cars, plus all the AC extras..!!

Thanks very much for that...I like many others though that piece was there just to support the twin pipes!
Will the car still pass the emissions test with that part removed?

Probably unlikely, as the MOT revs the engine to from memory 3K rpm, the precat will have given in by then, you will probably need some sports cats to replace that unit..!!
