My experience has been that it's a mammoth pita, but I've a feeling that @Ewan has commented more positively on the matter. Unless that related to bringing stuff in from the EU.

You will need a commercial invoice, have to determine and input a HS code for the item. If you use a carrier like UPS they will see you right.
