Hi,

Long time lurker recently registered :) Great forum btw...

In a couple of months I will be in a position to purchase a GS and to say I'm excited is a massive understatement. I have a budget of around 25k which seems about right (yes I study the classifieds on a daily basis - I can't help it!).

I have learnt so much from reading these forums but have yet to get close to a GS in the metal. Funnily enough the closest I got was at its launch at the motor show 10 years or so ago. That's when the fixation began...

I'm based near Horsham in West Sussex - any forum members nearby?

Can't wait to join the fold!

Cheers

Hey Dom...thanks for joining....several nice egs out there........drive a few, maybe go for a drive in a low mileage well looked after eg...then see what you can afford a little bit cheaper if budget around 25k.....keep us appraised and remember do get an indie inspection, best £250 you're spend.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Buying wise ill be looking to acquire a GS from a specialist (Dicky will be my first stop - hear nothing but positive praise) or from a forum member. If any potential car hasn't been inspected then that will absolutely be factored in.

Hi, I am just down the road in Chichester, if you want me to come along and inspect it with you, I am happy to do so.

My advise with £25k on the hip would go for a LE spec (full leather) you get so much more extras for your extra couple of grand.

Mileage, you should be looking at sub 40k and the big ticket items are the clutches and you have to take note of the oil pumps as they are starting to become a bit of an issue. This does appear in later miles, 70k upwards but also lack of use is not good for them either.

Get it is stinking hot and make sure the oil is over 2 bar or a 1/3rd of the gauge. Normally is should sit in the middle at 2.5bar.

Hey Dom: nice to 'meet' ya: £25k burning a hole should net you a fine motor indeed...

I've only been on here a couple of weeks but these guys (a) know their stuff, (b) tell it like it is and (c) are a generous crew with observations and time. Sure helped me with my recent acquisition!

Good luck in your quest.

Didck is a great place to start......and if private maybe worth taking Matt up on his offer as he is a Maserati cerial buyer and knows his onions.

Thanks for the kind words Dom, I'll do my best to sort what you're after. It's a shame you're not ready yet as I've 3 lovely ones in at the moment. Regards what you'd get, a low miles (sub 30000) LE is around £27k upwards. There are some around for less now and again privately but need a clutch and service etc which could easily be £3k or more. Don't disregard non LE cars too, buy on condition and history and you won't go far wrong.

Agree on non LE....As long as it has leather they are a great buy and if you go early 2005 you get the lower road tax bracket and save yourself £200 notes a year.

The 05 cars are what I would go for to, £450 a year road tax hurts, besides you can put the saved money towards a private plate.

Frank if the fold was in the bank I would be back....At some stage I have no doubt there will be a Maserati in my garage...It's just a case of when...and what.
