hi all,

been intouch with a classic car rental company here in Yorkshire & they are very keen to have my 4200 on there books for people to rent out for the day/couple of days/proms/weddings etc
my thinking is I could make some money out of my car instead of me spending money on my car
anyway has anyone else thought about this & what is your opinion ? would you be happy letting someone you don't know drive it around inexchange for ££££'s
I am not 100% on the idea but if the money is good I could be swayed
also would have to go on the insurance of of hire company plus abit of other red tape sort of things

or is it a case of NO WAY is a stranger taking my car ?

what do you think ?

They'd probably have it on some sort of trade policy like the big car hire companies have, the difference would be the £5000 excess

I can see it now, we've got your car back from hire, it needs 2 back tyres and a clutch , get that fixed for next Saturday and we can give you another £150 to rent it again

I used to offer a wedding service, although I or another insured party would drive the vehicle from A-B.

The money is good and made 1.5k on average per month, with fuel and my time only amounting to about 250.

putting a big excess on it was mentioned but no figure,
also thinking of signing up to production companys that hire cars out to film & tv

The fastest cars in the world are hire cars.

The abuse it'd get would be unfathomable to me.

Combine that with high powered cars love of rear tyres, and Maserati's clutch habit and I think it's amounting to insanity (though the CC is probably better than my manual at a guess as someone could just burn out the manual rally, really quickly, whilst the CC would just be used for traffic light GPs and reversing up all the hills right? ;)

If you don't want to spend the money required to keep it going, I'd say it's time to sell...

Me and a group of friends do a few weddings, proms etc. but in all cases we drive the cars. We have looked at extending our offer to some honeymoon periods but have always planned to buy cheaper classic cars for that and not our own cherished performance cars.

Film companies can be good and bad I have heard positive and negative experiences from other forum owners.

I rent an average of 12 cars per month from the major players.

As a lover of most cars I am shocked at what is considered as normal wear and tear and how the company treats the cars and how they drive them.

For me the above offer is like pimping your girlfriend or wife out... not a chance.

It's always good to air ideas, you'll always find a serious answer... somewhere.
I've thought about this too but after speaking to a wedding car driver, he put me off with the amount of insurance required and different types too.
I'll happily drive the groom and best man to church if it was a mate/relative but clearly not for reward. Maybe a beer or forego the B&Q vouchers...
