How do you replace the cover on the xenon headlamp washers?

I know they do it but it's the first time for me - one of my headlamp washer covers has disappeared. Thankfully the previous owner left two new ones in the car but how do I replace it?

I can see how it all fits but I need the washer mechanism to come out and stay out whilst I fix it. I've tried pulling the washer stalk and then turning off the ignition really quickly but no go. Any thoughts?

Hi Bigbob,
The washer jets are raised by water pressure so you have to get someone to opperate them ( headlights have to be on of course ) and while they are up grab hold ! You could clamp it with a plastic clamp or some molegrips with rag wrapped around. Take some pics for all while you are there as it sounds like it could be a common job.

Thanks. It looks like its very easy to clip on but I did not want to damage it by holding it whilst it was out. Will it give much resistance?

I did one of mine recently - I just grabbed it and pulled it out. Bit tough on the fingers but perfectly doable.

Lost one 3 years ago , so i bought half a dozen from Eurospares , think they were £7 each i think unpainted , had them all painted for £25 , replaced the one i lost , i found the best way is with fishing line , tie it around the stalk and just pull , get another pair of hands to takem hold whilst you clip on the new cover , actually quite easy ,

Thinking it was going to be common practice to replace them i tied some really light fishing line around them and achored them to the washer pump body , so that if they came off you would atleast retain the cap ,

To this day ive never had to replace another one on either car, i have 3 left , the other 3 have gone to Simon M

Well it has happened again and I have another spare cover to clip on. Felt really up for it and then realised that this time the grey circular clip on the end of the black washer jet that comes out of the bumper is missing too so there is nothing to clip the cover onto.

Anyone got a spare one? Its a ten pence piece of plastic but Maserati want to supply the whole washer jet that it clips onto as well as one item!

Thanks

Ta. Think you are right. 21 looks like the cover and 20 looks like the fixing just unsure from the diagram as to whether you just get the grey fixing with this or whether it also includes other bits I do not need.
