I would be in for something that is sensible and legal and where my slow reactions don't endanger anyone else especially Loz who seems to be of a nervous disposition when old Urby takes the wheel

Yep Vmax is a completely legal event, run by an ex Maserati QP owner (craig) completely safe providing you stick to the simple straight forward rules , and are not **** bent on racing as its frowned upon there , more of a personal challenge , and the good thing is you dont have to power take off your clutch , if its just top speed your interested in , they time 1/4 mile and mile if you want and you can drag start other cars if you want to , but thats not for me , more interested in the overall top speed ive done 165mph would dearly love to top that if i could , me mate Bazza has (havent you Bazza) hehehehehe

My existing Fully comp insurance with Aplan allows me up to 3 track days per year , at £50 a time providing i notify them, sometimes you just have to bite that bullet and go for it ,i bet stirling moss and fangio and donald cambell never worried about insurance when they were pushing the limits , worth having a crack at before we all get to old and wish we would have , whats the point of trying it at 70 years of age in a Prius or something , you have the car NOW to attempt something special dont let it pass you by tick one of lifes to do boxes now

Best of British on this one Mark, fingers crossed for you. It is as you said so easily done and is a shadow that hangs over all of us.

Hi Mark,

so if its speeding and not on the motorway then the max fine is £1500. If it your first offence and you plead guilty in the first instance then you're already down to £500 before you even started. If you get points the max you'll get is 6. It seems thesedays with all the speed cameras that 6 points isn't a massive amount and most insurance companies will still look at you.

You can download the sentencing guidelines here in pdf. It covers all motoring crimes so makes a good read.

http://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk...s_guidelines_including_update_1__2__3_web.pdf

Speeding is on page 131 with a full breakdown of reasons/factors for the judges to consider. You can use this info if to help with a statement of mitigation. eg dry, good visibility etc. As regards mitigation, you need to say how others will be affected, eg relatives need you for transport etc.

Hope this helps

Totally agree, that's great information. Thanks Simon!

So worth checking....

No Schools?
No pedestrian walkways?
