When looking for the Spyder there was a similar one in Leighton Buzzard, the guy selling it had a CL55 with over 600 BHP which was very tempting but I decided drug dealing was not my thing

Don't diss the SL! The merc is a lovely thing, and doesn't go all wobbly at the sight of a pebble.

I'm not dissing the SL. It's a fabulous car, but it's just another fast Merc.

My sister had an SL...Can not remember the engine size but I had it for a weekend...Great looking car but it was like driving a boat......Wobbly would be the word.....Now I'm sure if it was the AMG55 it ma have been a different story.

I must admit I've not driven an SL55 but I might make the effort to do so. They are becoming very reasonably priced these days and with a smaller supercharger pulley they can bang out over 550bhp, which is a lot, and with a decent exhaust they sound fantastic too. Almost as good as a Maser!

Had one for a week in 2004!!
Friend had a black with red leather from new and when he went on Holiday he gave it to me to "cruise" in as my BM was getting on a bit then.....

Loved it....at the time i wanted one, but looking back it was not as good to drive as my Maser, very lazy car for me.....its the sound that i love and if im being honest it prop sounds better than my Maser.....

I sold one with a Kleeman conversion on it, around 600 bhp if I remember correctly. It made a superb noise and went like a rocket, about 3.5 seconds to 60. Problems were that it did 9mpg, had an awfully dated interior and got scared at the thought of a bend in the road.

As far as I know, they are a two seater with pop-up roll bars.
