Idler Pulley Squeal

I’m not usually cynical of garages but how can you make an idler pulley start to squeal?

My mum dropped her Volvo off at the dealers this morning. All ok.

At lunchtime they phoned her and said it needs a new idler pulley. No noise when she dropped it off but it’s now unbearably loud.

there was a guy on the south coast a Renault mechanic who when getting low on work would deliberately nick with a stanley blade the cam belt of customers cars knowing full well sometime in the near future they would be back for major work , this was witnessed by an apprentice he was training up who was my cousin , obviously he didnt stay too much longer after that

Probably/possibly over tightened it

Unlikely, I put it on. Had a look yesterday and the bearings gone completely it’s wobblier than a Weight Watchers coach trip on cobbles. I guess it just went between the car park and the workshop but seems odd.
