i hope it doesn't ever die off, the only reason i can think that the Nurburgring may close is that if they decide it is too dangerous.

Would be a real shame if it closed down. I love it. Went in the GS this summer but it was closed for the day, been round a few times before.

Spent many weekends there and a full six weeks in the summer of 1996. Last trip was in 1999 when with the planned changes to the start line etc I gave it a rest for 2000 season and some how never returned.

TopGear and others have promoted the Ring and it is now so busy on tourist days that even I conceded to the opinion that it is very dangerous particularly for a bike which was my chosen weapon back then.

It sounds like it's become a funpark surounding the old circuit and that is sad. The Dorrint hotel was the only new building back then.A white wooden hut with a NCP style gate only over half way accross the track and a Blackey (on the busses's) type chap punching your 8 lap ticket at the start line!

Oh the good old days,

It is a fantastic place, built and funded by the Nazi's (the only thing we can thak those maniac's for) in the 30's to create employment during the economic depression & to give them total domination in motor sport. I will return one day, infact if I had not busted my collarbone last March I had booked a weekend trip with mates last April.
