Guys,

have you seen this...??

What did you think of it. I think its great!! Over the last 10 years you have seen Jaguar really getting away from that "Old man Drivers car " image that it had while most of us grew up...

I am not sure about the rear lights but the rest is awesome, that Interior is fab,,,,

What do you think??

Is this what sports cars of the future will be at least in the short term...

Driving a KERS car would be great it would be like having a car fitted with NOS... and lets face it today, considering the traffic, overtaking is 90% of what we do.. There are very few places you can cruise at high speed in Europe... The rest of the time its practical and saves you money in your tank.. and on taxes.. insurance etc..

Would you buy it Matt if it was 55K new??? and available.

Would have to agree at £50K extremely good value and stylish but i think it would be more like £70K when the time comes or i'll eat the hat that i dont posess but then a 2-3 year old MC shift is that sort of money so performance figures will come into it and be the deciding factor

Hum, yes that is very nice. Jags have been catching my eye for a few years now, they are sort of aiming for the Maserati sector and judging on the above, are doing a very good job at it.

The XF is a nice car, bit boring, but its an M5 rival. The current XK is a bit dated, it has its nice bits but does not come together as a complete car for me, sort of a bodge to carry them till they get the above ready.

It will nice to have some cars out there that will make Maserati up their game, they need to IMHO as all this talk of SUV's and Yank engines can only take the brand one way.

The above also reminds me of a GS/Sypyker mix. If you look at the front 3/4 view, from the wing mirrors back its GS:

I bet they dont make it, Jag are renowned for making many concept cars and pulling out at the last minute. Does not do anything to me and besides i wonder how much it will cost. That XKR-S is nearly 100k which i find comical.

They *have* made it, it's a production prototype, not a concept car.

XKR-S, whilst not my cup of tea, will monster a DBS or V12 Vantage on power and outright pace, not sure the underpinnings would cope on track, but still an amazingly fast car. But a bit... lumpy to look at! Jag are trying to address their 'old man' image and this is all good stuff to get rid of that, a change in perception is needed. I have had a couple of V8 Jags and hope to have another one, they are lovely to drive, but the excitement and drama is missing, more just a sense of wellbeing. Hence the image.

I think £50k with all that tech is almost impossible. Maybe a 50k version with low spec, no KERS and normally aspirated?

Adam,

I think XKR-s V Nissan GTR are just a different customer base...

If you compare the two cars on technicals alone, depending on the jag's weight I suspet the GTR will walk it, but then it walks most things,, even 150K machines... In my book you buy a GTR to track or use as a day to day tool. Other types of cars are all about theatre and soul... which is why many on this board own maserati's. Current maserati's are all looking a bit big heavy and slow... The GS for me is still number one... I agree the Granturismo is beautiful and the build has improved along with reliability. But in driver terms its a long way off the mark...

I think maserati have lost their direction a bit at present, they started out with the current crop saying these are GT cars not 0-60 and 0-100 machines, since then they have built a few sporty models to prove what I don't know. Fiat said originally if you want to go fast you buy a ferrari, if you want luxury you buy a maserati to cruise... but at 2 tonnes you will not go round corners easily or beat most things down the straight... I still want maserati to build good sports GT cut about 300kg and you will see them come alive.. but that would put them straight in the path of ferrari...

Yeah but what about an XKR-S v Nissan GTR???

Apples and oranges really. As just mentioned above, different people will by it depending on who they are and what their interests are. If I had a collection of 100 cars, a GTR wouldn't be in it, I think it's amazing but have no need for such a thing. Want to go stupidly fast? Would buy an Atom/Caterham. Want a GT? Would buy an Aston/Jag/Maser. Want a Sports car? Would buy Ferrari/Porsche. But that's me!

Want something that does all of those things adequately well? No, not really.

It's a computer controlled car for the Fast and Furious generation. Being a few tenths slower to 60 or a few seconds slower round the Nurburgring is of supreme indifference to me. I like what I like, and so does everyone else, and I believe the Nissan is selling well - it deserves to as an amazing enginering achievement. Compare the Nissan and even a standard XKR, I'd have the Jag every time, even though it would be subjectively 'worse' in every measurable way; except the way it makes me feel (cue Michael Jackson...)

I actually love where Masser have gone with the QP and GT. I always liked Masser's but more in a way that I couldn't afford a Ferrari. I think moving into the big wafting GT cars suits the classiness of the brand and I think it lines up well against the German limo's especially for those that want a bit of style and not just technical engineering. I have never driven either and I don't imagine they could compete with the 3200/4200 for handling but thats not really why you are buying it is it? And if they have the reliability sorted I think they can really attack this market. I think the GT is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen, well until the 458 came out. They are doing good things in that part of the world I wonder if that was Todt's influence and they will start to follow the F1 team down now that everyone has left. I think for the first time given no budget I reckon I might choose a Masser over a Ferrari.

The sporty coupe is a tough market I reckon with more competitors all the time Aston, Porsche, JAG, M Beemers, RS Audi's, R8, A5, AMG and then then we get to Japan. Luxury and the WAFT factor you get to enjoy all the time in normal driving and as long as there is effortless power for overtaking is all I need. How often do you get to use sportiness on normal roads? I often go to work with my mate he has a 3 year old Porsche 911 cabriolet. It's easily the most uncomfortable car I have ever been in and I have never been above 60km/h in it. I am trying to talk him into a QP.

Think I would be tempted to put a deposit on one of these if I had spare cash.....Could be a little money to be made at the beginning maybe...........Saying that I would be tempted to own one it I had the money....

As we thought then, £50k will buy you a normally aspirated 3.0 V6 without KERS. Should still pack 280bhp or so into a resonably light ally body. Lovely :)

Whats the point of having a loud button without the push to pass button , you gotta have both surely , just to ensure button pushing overtaking is gonna be like writing a post on here before you can even put your foot hard down , whats happened to the good old point squirt and go
