The car had sat for a while so just changed the battery but this made no difference
The key does turn the alarm on and off thoughWhat happened to make you change the battery?

Thankyou ill check thoseAnd it was working fine before it sat?
If it's *totally* dead, I'd be checking the main connections very carefully, and the big fuses on the positive terminal

ditto thought from meDouble check the battery connections and check the battery you bought is not a complete dud.
Sam
I tested the battery which is 12,5v and the fuses to the battery again all ok ♀️
Yes it was ok
Hmmm, tricky. Depending on how long it stood and in what conditions I'd start worrying about rodent damage. Be worth checking the ignition switch for basic function if there is *nothing* on the dash when you turn the key.
Do any of the warning lights come on
Do the head lights work?
Do the hazards work?

When my battery went dead last year, the alarm worked for a bit after the car wouldn't start, but then eventually that stopped working too and the car sealed itself like a tomb. The only way in was through the boot. The RAC used their diagnostics to check for any issues and then installed a new battery which thankfully resolved the issue. Hope you find a swift and painless resolution too.The key does turn the alarm on and off though
