Synthetic fuel is a side show. Its still burning carbon based fuel and it will produce CO2 and NOX and all that and ultimately will have to go. Its a stop gap and they are assuming that during an energy transition from carbon to alternative fuels it there will be a market for a slightly cleaner fuel.
I have a BMW i3 which has a 13 amp plug charger and I keep a long extension lead with me!! but to be honest I have never needed to run it across a street. I have been able to plug it into wherever I am staying including hotel rooms, and it has not been a problem. While my old i3 has a fairly short range it is very efficient with its use of energy and is only 1400kg including the batteries, so this is light and efficient, the Teslas are faster and have longer range but use more energy to get from A-B because of the weight.
