Keeping a maserati outside

Hi all

I am looking a buying a Maserati Granturismo but my garage is borderline big long enough to fit the car in. I've never had one of the 'nice cars' parked on the drive and wondered do any owners keep their cars outside? Given the issues I've read about rusting subframes is it a bad idea and do any owners use outdoor covers over the winter?

Thanks

Trev
I have the answer. If the garage is wide enough to get the car in.Take the door off. Sorted.
Under cover, ventilated, easy to access, nice to look at when you get home and won't get scoured by a cover.

Welcome to the forum Trev.
As you see quite a few of us here, self included, keep their pride and joy outside. I think you have nothing to fear. Go and drive a few lovely Granturismos and buy the one you love the most. Don't worry about being unable to garage it.
Plenty of good advice available here from owners better qualified than me who have driven and loved their Maseratis longer that I have mine. Plenty of help with the purchase process and the ownership process is on hand.
You will need to do some research, but it isn't difficult.
Once again, welcome! Happy new Maserati for 2023.

Both of mine are generally outside and uncovered and loved and driven...it will be fine. Just get a sunshade to keep your dash from blistering...!

Mine's outside. Birds can be an issue, I work away for 2 weeks at a time & no-one volunteers to clean my cars while I'm gone!
I also keep a solar trickle charger on the dash plugged into the diagnostic port.

My Granturismo is kept outside, and I use a cover...sometimes

Basically, if I have cleaned and dried the car and won't be using it for a week, I will put the cover on

What I find is that yes, the cover seems to trap some moisture (despite being a custom, multi-layered, 'breathable' version) and the cover does get buffeted when stormy (even though strapped down). I haven't seen any damage from this yet, though am worried that the staps will rub on the paint work overtime

If the weather becomes dry, I remove the cover to let everything dry out properly (and go for a drive). It doesn’t go back on until the car has been cleaned again

Without the cover the car obviously gets a lot wetter and due to wax etc. beads the water and doesn't ever seem to really dry out (not with the recent weather anyway). It also gets dirtier and where mine sits, it gets covered in moss from the neighbour’s roof

But come spring, I’ll probably leave it off all the time

Covers are a blessing and a curse. They breathe sure, but not much. So condensation still gets trapped and damp can be a right sod. I actually think a cover is of more use in the summer to keep dust and bird shite off than in the winter where they may well keep the rain off but they keep a lot damp more in and prevent the movement of fresh air from drying things out. Damp, cold and delicate electrics are not good friends. The electrics never win. As a rule of thumb, which I just invented, if it's too cold for PZeros* it's too cold for covers.

My GTS and now my Vantage live outside (although the latter goes away for a winter spa break in a nice heated storage facility). Buy it, use it, love it.

*we haven't got all worked up about this topic lately and a gentle pointless argument seems overdue.

I’d avoid covers and leave outside. To avoid damage takes a lot of time and attention and may lead you to use the car less. Having it available to jump in and drive is probably better for it in the long term. That’s assuming it’s not parked under a tree. If it is, then a cover would probably be the lesser evil. I also like the open garage idea above from @Gazcw. Ready made carport!
