I don't know how many of you went to this years 24H, but it was very different to past years. You needed the “Tous Covid” ap to prove you were vaccinated to get in, and that may well remain for 2022. Infections are on the rise in France again and its still mandatory to wear masks indoors in public areas until seated and show the Tous Covid ap in restaurants and bars.
Once in the circuit, it was very strange and felt more like Goodwood than Le Mans. The village had grassed areas to sit on deckchairs and watch on big screens and a children’s play area with bouncy castle! With only 20% of normal capacity permitted, you could get a good view anywhere on track without the hordes of drunken brits. Indeed, I only heard French and the odd German and Dutch speaker there and it did lack a bit of the usual atmosphere, so hoping its BAU in 22.
As always, I'll do you a special deal for our apartments in "Le Cheval Blanc" facing the square right opposite the Hotel de France in La Chartre, with the best view of all the cars and personalities who stay such as Ickx, Bell etc. We're fully booked for the Classic in July with a forum member amongst our guests, but have availability for the 24H if you fancy a different and very special location as your base.
