Every manufacturer needs a SUV in their range, the days of niche enthusiast cars are at an end, when you think what Maserati used to be it's a pity they've had to fall in line to please the bean counters.

I'm sure a lot of rich italian women are very happy with it as women seem obsessed with SUVs

Yeah, lets get back to the real Maserati days, before WWII, when they only made and sold customer racing cars to finance their own racing ambitions.

The real problem came when Orsi took over and started making cars for the general public. What? It saved the company, piffle and balderdash.

Fed up with the constant whinging about Maserati building the cars that people are buying, its worse than Brexit ;)

Maserati could continue to just make sports cars. In order to survive on that they'd have to concentrate on the high end market occupied by the like of Pagani and Koenigsegg as they wouldn't be able to sell Ferrari of Lambo numbers without needing to cater to the more popular end of the market. Is this really what people want?

I half agree. By all means make an SUV. But make one worthy of the name. Not one with some FCA parts bin diesel engine.

and to make matters worse, the service at GrayPaul in Brum has been pretty poor. The passenger seat motor failed as it was being demonstrated when we picked it up, they said would get it back in to sort at a time that worked for us. On top of this, the Getchinq coating they added really did not take well.

They agreed to take it back in to sort this also. Fast forward to Monday where I had arranged to drop it off for them to do the work. Worked out nicely for me as I had a meeting 20 mins down the road. Said they needed for 3-4 days, so the above Levante was offered up. Chased today to find the seat parts had not even been ordered- cue a small explosion in East Anglia............gets worse as had a phone call 20 mins after said explosion to say that the parts are on back order and not due in until mid to late August. WTF book the car in not knowing if spare part is actually in workshop or available at short notice.

I would like to say that was the end of it. I wanted the car back for the weekend, and next week we are taking it on a run to Normandy, however, they have no delivery capability until Monday now. Not the happiest teddy bear in the world. Add to that that it will need to go back again for the seat work end of August.............Have expressed my displeasure in having to add over 600 miles to the car with all the pissing about. 600 miles would not be a massive issue if the roads were fun, but 400 odd of them are in bloody road works.

Have demanded comes up and down on truck next time.

Rant over from a grumpy git.

I can't blame you for being grumpy about the situation.

Mick, I'm kinda with you on this, so long as it does indeed fund the flagships. Obviously you're smitten with your change from Giblet S to Levante S. Of course, you've gone for a proper engine, not diseasel.
I've rather liked sitting in a few Levante, although not driven them. They do seem to fill the "luxury unusual marque offering a desirable model-type that exudes a different type of class" and are a lovely place to be.
Do we get a decent review piece from you on the car soon please?

The diesel is a particularly poor choice, but they sell in Europe so ... Personally I don't understand Alfa selling diesels, and they've been doing that since the 80s, never mind Maserati.

The 430 hp petrol engine is fun. The air suspension is great and the luxury level is up there. Its an improvement over the MY14 spec Ghibli S I had. Shame they announced the RHD Trofeo after I'd picked up my S.
