Lots of us love a V12 Aston Martin.....

Exactly that. Most places will do it but you can get actual Aston pipes for the same money as you'd pay BR or DAE to do the same thing, if you know where to look. Where are you based?

PS - if you want to go the full (but switchable) hooligan you can replace the primaries with catless manifolds and stick sports cats where the secondaries go.
I’m based in Cambridge

There’s seems to be quite a few recent Aston purchases, did you look at any other cars and the Aston came out on top or did it just have to be an Aston?
I wasn’t even really looking! I was vaguely thinking about selling my GT in the spring/summer next year and was thinking possibly about Virages (the 2010’s one) Then this Vanquish came up, I got giddy and bought it.

That left me with a bit of a problem because it took me up to six cars which I don’t really have space to park, and I don’t drive that much.

So the GT is up for sale. I also had a BMW i4 M50 which I was using for daily duties which I sold today. I have somehow ended up with 5 cars none of which are really suitable for daily driving, which isn’t ideal. I think the 4200 is going to be put into daily action for the time being.

I would have thought the Ford Mondeo would be the very definition of a daily driver. But that said, why would get into that car when you get into one of the Masers, or the Aston? If it was me, I’d sell the Ford, and probably the 4200 as well. Then I’d use the Maser GT as a daily summer car, the Jeep as a daily winter car, and have the Aston as the highdays and holidays vehicle. Those three would cover all bases. Though I’d then probably buy a convertible of some sort, as a forth car, for sunny days.

Yes fair point and the Mondeo does somtimes get used by me for longer journeys, but it is mostly used by my other half so isnt usually available for daily work duties. It's brilliant for chucking bikes and baby stuff into and heading off on holiday without really caring where we park it etc so that one is probably a keeper at least for the next few years

For the Vanquish then yes, more so it was going to be an Aston Martin. I hadn’t ruled out other marques and a Stradale particularly in Rosso Magma was an option, but my longer term goal is an FF or GTC4 Lusso, both of which are still beyond financial reach, albeit the FF got close but has since firmed up. I’m also watching the market on the new Granturismo and am sure at some point in the nearish future will be an irresistible option.

So after scanning for cars I like that have adequately depreciated, but represent in my eyes a step up on my past cars, then I chose to go for an Aston Martin DB11. It is a marmite car, which for me is a bonus, has a combination of GT, speed and sound. Plus has the 5.2 V12 albeit twin turbo’d as a draw and box tick. So I started to follow the market for them intensely waiting for the right car. I actually found the right car (spec I like etc) but shot myself in the foot on a fantastic deal for the sake of £500 (private sale but with transferrable warranty and the AM Dealer who’d been servicing the car gave it a massive thumbs up)! Sometimes I can be too stubborn for my own good and so lost the car.

A few weeks later a Dealer called me about a DB11 they had taken in on p/ex, I went to view it prior to prep and whilst there spotted a Gorgeous Vanquish that was in for service. The DB11 wasn’t for me but the Vanquish drew me in and so the search started!

A bit long winded, but I’m now happily in a Vanquish…..

Stunning! I love that colour but can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Remind me, would you?

DB11 vs Vanq is an interesting one. The only reason I've ever seen for someone opting for the 11 is just to get something more modern. On all other scores the Vanq wins. Well done!

In case you're interested, my last two services were done by Bamford Rose but the next one will be DAE, just for variety and because the challenges of reaching Mike at BR by phone or email always lend a degree of uncertainty as to progress, whether it'll be finished and so on. It always has been, but what customer doesn't like a bit of communication during the process.

Thank Richard, I have to say that both Magma Stradales you’ve sold recently were on the radar, but as I’ve had two GT’s already, I was under pressure from my Sons to go for something different :D

The DBS certainly is well regarded and hence commands a decent price. For me it wouldn’t be a consideration whilst the Vanquish is similarly priced, is newer, has better Tech, performance, drives better, carbon fibre body etc, and in my opinion is the better looking car, more so in it still looks modern for its age, whereas the stunning DBS looks like a bit dated albeit is the older design. There is no question though that a nice condition DBS is still sought after and is validated by the fact the AM Dealers still sell nice examples of the them.

Lightning Silver, it’s a multi layer silver so has hints of blue, gold etc in it and in bright light / sunlight looks almost white. Sadly I haven’t had the chance to take any pics of it in sunlight yet, but will do when the chance appears.

Thanks for the heads up on servicing. I did email BR recently about another topic but no response, but fully understand these places can be busy.

DAE has a stellar reputation. It's a trek, but the reputation suggests a worthwhile one.

They aren’t that far from me and they have a reputation as good as BR these days and the good thing from what I hear is they answer the phone unlike BR. If I was lucky enough to have an AM DAE us where I would take it.

I'm not that lucky, but I'll still take it! It's a good excuse to drop in on Crofty and catch up with family in the south west at the same time.

Roll on spring! Until then, it's SORN'd.

The DB11 really was a step backwards, design-wise, wasn't it?
