I paid less than those figures, just ball parking it in 500 hundreds. The warranty is priced in euros so the recent strength in sterling has helped.

I went through this whole dance with my 4 year service as I also had the extended warranty. If you read the service book the Lamda Sensors and Carbon Canister are only recommended items at the 4 year service, they are not compulsory. The compulsory change comes much later and as I had only done about 17k miles didn't feel that either was about to give me any problems, so politely delined their offer to take another £1,000+ off me. The wear and tear on these items is predominantly mileage dependant and as such should last significantly longer than 4 years if the mileage is not high. Was told the warranty would not cover those items if there was a problem but everything else was unaffected. Given this I didn't change them. I subsequently had a ECU problem (water had got in and damaged it) and the issue was dealt with under warranty without question. On this basis I would not worry about either of these items needing to be replaced if mileage is not excessive, its just a way for Maserati and their dealers to relieve us of yet more money!

It's all done now and although they emptied my pocket of £2380 I'm a reasonably happy chappy
Gave good service and I'm happy that recommended parts have been changed using genuine parts

Interesting. What mileage do you think is reasonable? To be far, my car will be on about 33/34,000 miles at the four year service so more relevant for me than you.

In my somewhat limited experience I would be surprised if either of these items needed replacing before 50k miles. There will be other variables as well, but all things being equal they should be reasonably durable. If either failed or started to give problems you would know about it because the car would either not be running as smoothly as it should or you will get an emissions light come on. Car should still be driveable and simply change then. I think way too much is made of these items being changed at 4 years when more often than not their actual design life is way longer. The only consideration would be if you were thinking about selling the car and they had not been changed, a potential buyer may take this in to account as an up coming cost, but no more so than a new clutch or brake pads and discs. If planning on keeping it then I wouldn't worry, change if there is an issue or when the book says it is mandatory, as opposed to recommended.
