I am very lucky to live only 8 miles away from AV Engineering so if the car checks out, I will have a great place to go to get work done and have the car maintained.

You must be fairly close to me then.

I’m in Ashford. Will have a look to see if I have the Sat Nav cd in the garage from my old 4200.
I never used it as it’s rubbish but it’s always handy to have I guess.

Well I decided not to proceed but no complaints about the seller and I had a great time down at Dick Lovett.

I will post up later about what came up on the PPI.

Car will be back up on eBay tonight, if not already. I spoke to Luke Shaw at carswithnoreservereading and an offer of £10,100 would secure the car if not listed.

No doubt I will be told I should have bought but no regrets and I had a really good day out.

To put it into prospective I sold my 72k 4200, 2003 (04MY) back in 2011 for just shy of £13k. It was higher miles than most (it had been enjoyed) hence the price, but also it had clean bill of health from Emblem and proper full yearly history with all recipes including one for a major service just a month before sale.

So it does shows how the market for these has remained reasonably static price wise however a poor car soes need to be much lower.

Hi Mark, I live in Faversham so the prospect of Maserati ownership is made a lot more palatable.

If anyone would like to see the PPI report, PM me.

Headlines are the suspension woes that have been advised at numerous MOTs and not resolved (and the n/s rear is now more than a light misting), leaking power steering radiator, repaired o/s rear quarter with overspray on the rear light, perished rear bush, illegal o/s rear tyre, n/s rear tyre with a screw in it, uneven tyre wear (inside edge on fronts, outside edge on rears or vice versa) and intermittent MPS and clutch lights that only appeared whilst at DL. On the upside, only 7.1% clutch wear!

No such thing as a cheap Maserati

I beg to differ as i have my cheap project Maserati down here in New Zealand to prove the point.
I know what you mean Peter as i have worked for the Dealer and know what kind of bills go out to the customer.

They are possibly cheap, IF, you can do the majority of the work yourself, and can get away without the need for dealer intervention.

That is the key point if you can do much of the work yourself. If you need an dealer or even an Indy to do the work it is going to make a lot less sense if at all.

Same situation on the project 4200 I bought from Beau. Needed a heap of work that I did myself mostly just leaving the bits I couldn't do for an Indy. The numbers barely made sense then but made no sense at all any other way.

So if you were mechanically limited (like me) and had to use a garage at £90+ an hour how much would you cheap masers have cost to fix up?

A lot! I spent a llllooonnngg time on that project 4200....& still a fair bit of cash on part & labour for jobs not easy for me of I had no time for. Like many resto projects we do it for the fun (?), enjoyment (?) and satisfaction (?).....oh. that was it. I have no idea why we do it....it makes no sense at all Vic!

To change the subject slightly. There's what's described as a 'baby blue' 2006 QPV on eBay with about 70k miles and a 'baseball leather' interior. Seller wants a shade over £6,000.
I think this is the lowest priced QPV I've seen in the last year or so.
Probably damaged repaired, or some other back story.
I never knew that the Italians were big into baseball. You learn something new every day ;)

That's why my car was advertised on here as the owner had spent thousands on its maintenance and just felt this was the last straw.
For me it was an opportunity as I had the time.
Still spent 2 grand on parts.

Whatever happened to that car ?
Remember it ended up on EBay a few times I wonder if it got fixed or broken up ?
Mine was a lot less than 7 for sure.
Didn't owe me that repaired and over 3 years of enjoyable motoring.

Some photos of the topic car if anyone is interested can be seen here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsm7G8Dc4

Taken on my phone so not great quality but shows up some of the issues. Possibly a project car but the idea that this is running without engine coolant in the reservoir is a tad worrying.
