My old man had a 1974 SM in white with red velor & leather interior! fantastic I was the talk of the school can't find a picture of it anywhere. He had big citroens after that until he stopped driving in 2002 I have his XM 24 valve in my garage with 60k on it although its in need of some TLC now
Correct. The SM looks as if it was designed by a 3 year old using blunt crayons; what an ugly pos. Citroen hydrospastics, what a nightmare; if the spheres lose pressure you lose everything, brakes, steering and suspension and how could that end badly? French aesthetics and Italian reliability, a match made in h3ll. I feel there are a lot of rose tinted specs being worn around here when remembering the 'good old days'. Hateful pieces of cr4p.
Nonsense Ian.....the hydraulics were aerospace spec.......in reality was quite reliable. I used several DS/CX/CMs over 6 odd years....never any bother.
Sounds as if the myth industry is at it again...much like the Maserati myths!
The reservoir retained plenty of pressure if system failed allowing safe braking and the rest.
I remember my dad had a Citroen with floating suspension, scary brakes, a single spoke steering wheel and spinning instruments - looked even more futuristic than "Space 1999" and had me fascinated for hours. **** the FIA and their safety campaigns...
