Maserati Ghibli 2014 - reversing camera fault

Anybody know what might have caused the bottom half of the view on my reversing camera to have become mis-aligned. Maserati dealer suggested a "problem with the early model cars - that has been corrected with later models". It was returned to me not fixed! I suggest this is a fault and not a feature, but would be grateful for an opinion. It did show the full screen originally, with additional broken red lines towards the rear view instead of a partial view of the number plate/bumper.WP_20161228_15_32_10_Pro.jpg

I'm pretty sure that that's the same view I have on mine. I see the bumper at the bottom and no broken red lines. That said mine is probably an MY14 car (15 plate).

The problem is that the shot of the number plate/bumper conceals the critical view when reversing as it hides the distance to the object behind! Instead of a series of broken red lines leading to the rear view obstacle – this is now replaced with a fixed view of the number plate/bumper? This is clearly not correct – and means that the reversing gap cannot be gauged, and so it is not working as it was designed to.

Also it was working perfectly, so it must be a fault which should be covered under warranty?

They must have updated the software to change the picture , on my merc it's superimposed over the camera picture and the yellow box moves with the steering so I don't see how it could change on it own accord as the camera is just a camera, its the software that adds the graphics

I can confirm that mine has always been like this. The parking sensors give me the rough distance. I thought that being able to see the bumper let me judge the distance to low walls etc better.

Is it possible that the camera has more than one view available? I didn't have the camera on my Ghibli but do on our Volvo and with that you push a little button labelled Camera and the view changes. Perhaps search through the settings and see if it's adjustable?

First world problem though!

good point, I'd forgotten about that, the merc has a rear view and a look down view for hitching a trailer, maybe the maserati has the same

Checked around and can't find an option to change the view. I've checked the manual and can only find reference to and on/off option.

Response from the Maserati Dealer to me...

Subject: RE: Maserati Ghibli reversing camera issue

Good afternoon Sir and happy new year.

As you can see from the attached image from a like for like model that appears to be a normal characteristic. The red points are where the vehicle’s body begins and therefore the car should never be reversed beyond the yellow lines.

I am unable to offer an alternative to this as it is within standard specifications.
Best regards

My Response to the Maserati Dealer ...

Thank you for your response below.

It is disappointing that a Maserati dealer will not fix a problem that was once working properly; and has now developed a fault that has changed it’s view. Describing a fault as a normal characteristic is hardly acceptable – nor is sending me a picture of another faulty Ghibli. This is clearly a known problem, and not just associated with my car, that you are unable or unwilling to fix and restore to its former functionality.

Disappointing!
Regards
