A couple of Maserati spots. Ended up shadowing this GT all the way from Reading services to Cheltenham. Must have thought I was his stalker. Again, I did my usual trick of sticking my head out of the window to hear it roar past.

Then in Cheltenham, was sat behind another black GranTurismo, TKXX AMK. Alas I was in the mega-mile 156.

4.2L with upgraded headlights?

Unusual to see one with the clear lenses

A simple thought to run a check!

That is a late registration for a 4.2 then as thought they stopped making them in favour of the 4.7 only in 2010/2011?
Strangely they kept making the 4.2 for a few years after the GT Sport came out. They left it largely in 2012MY spec with the wavy seat pattern. My dealer used to moan that Maserati made them buy two a year even though they did not want them!

I can't believe how cheap these QPs are now
49k for £8995 and that's probably optimistic , it makes the high mileage ones look utterly worthless

If it's been well looked after and gets a clean MOT they are a lot of car for the money that's for sure.
Big issue's as ever Subframe and suspension.

Think that’s one of the issues Phil.....Cheap to buy now but not cheap to run and it only takes a few big bills with subframe etc and you have spent more than the car is worth. A 15 year old Maserati is a big step to take no matter what the price. A big yearly fund needed probably ..... Better if you know a friendly mechanic like yourself though Phil.

Spot on Andy.
The one that was a bargain was the Scottish one with free delivery in the UK that @Kincath had.
That was really worth bringing up to scratch.

Interesting thread guys. I’m in a similar situation. I’ve owned my 2005 Coupe for ten years now. I love it to bits and really enjoy driving it. It looks great and often gets compliments when I’m out and about. It passed the MOT without any issue, but the garage game me a “list” of things that need to be addressed. I’ve given approval to complete the high priority items and the service, but still have a long list of items that need to be addressed. Any thoughts?

Urgent items

1. Right hand number plate bulb not working

2. Left front top suspension wishbone bush has play recommend replace both bushes

3. Steering rack gaiters very perished and in poor condition recommend replaced

4. Both left hand and right hand front top ball joints gaiters split recommend replaced

Recommended items

5. Oil pressure gauge reading maximum before engine running recommend investigate

6. Air filter assembly leaking unfiltered air into engine recommend remove and attempt repair as replacement not available

7. Remote key not working recommend new

8. Left front suspension dust cover missing recommend new

9. Left hand rear lower wishbone track arm has play recommend new

10. Recommend 2,3,4 year service items, car has been in storage and in storage

11. Both rear tyres low on tread recommend replaced soon

12. Front anti roll bar bushes in poor condition replacement

13. Rear brake pads 80% worn and discs corroded and lipped recommend new

14. Coolant level low recommend top up with new antifreeze

Less serious items for future consideration

15. Handbrake requires adjustment lever very high included in item 13

16. Centre high brake lamp bulbs dim recommend new

17. Glove box lid broken recommend investigate cause

18. Boot lid wiring loom getting caught recommend replaced

19. Front towing eye thread corroded recommend attempt to clean and recut threads

20. Front discs lipped and corroded pads 50% worn, recommend new discs when pads changed

21. Drivers door check strap noisy recommend new

Additional Items but no parts currently available

22. High not horn not working

23. Fuel cap cord broken

24. Right front lower ball joint has play

25. Engine and gearbox mounts worn

26. Clutch wear recorded at 52%

That’s all standard minor stuff that would usually have been tackled as and when it came up, as opposed to being left to accumulate. I’d do it all, though the clutch is fine at only half worn. BTW, 23 is an MOT fail, so you must move that up to your do-it-now list.

Item 23 has changed then since I last tested 6 years ago it was just a secure sealing cap the cord wasn't a testable item.

Spot on - nothing too scary there on its own but looks daunting there.

And many of those parts are definitely available if you look hard enough (horn, fuel cap etc.)

Thanks for the feedback. She was in storage for three years when I was working abroad. I’ll definitely invest in addressing the list.

Thoughts on a good garage in the South London area??

Looks pretty much like the list Ash & Matt produced when they gave my spyder a health check (although I think I may have had one or two more serious items). They sorted it all and now everyone, including the car, is very happy.

My QP passed its MOT with "Fuel cap cord broken" and I don't see any requirement in the manual. Or did @Ewan mean 22 - "horn not working"

I could well be wrong about the cap cord - it's something I recall being told by a well-known garage when one of my cars needed it. Maybe I misunderstood, as let's face it, it's hardly safety critical!

Re: "8. Left front suspension dust cover missing recommend new" do they mean the upper spacer? Part 9 below:

76556

My understanding is this has been NLA for a couple of years.
If this is what your garage means of course.
Maybe try one of the breakers if so.
