MCV Front Splitter

I agree with those that suggest the car needs some more front areo
Hey Fernando, when I first got my Spyder, I too was a bit disappointed in the high speed stability of the classico front end. The lift and lightness between 90-130 is a bit scary. Over 130 for some reason it seems to settle down some. So I fabbed up a flexible spoiler that goes on the under-tray where it bulges down. By measurement, I think it cuts the air flow under the car by about 1/3. Also, due to lower pressure under the car, it pulls more air thru the rad, and the car runs cooler. Cr@ppy pik, and she's dirty, but you get the idea.

It made a huge difference in how the car handles at speed, and I think it looks pretty good too.

That is quite cool... Interesting that it worked as well, you must have bolted it on pretty well. I guess you used the same fixing points at the front of the under tray -did you reinforce the bumper or fixings points any further?

I have only realised how bad it is on the 4200 around the range you mentioned since I have got my Alpina which has a massive front splitter, rear wing and rear diffuser - changing lane over 90mph it feels like it is glued onto the tarmac

Thanks, my under tray was pretty banged up when I bought her, ordered a new one, but before I put it on I thought I would see if I could help out the high speed float a bit. A splitter takes the air that goes down from the bumper and uses it to push the front end down. All the stress is vertical. A spoiler, or air dam like this blocks air from flowing under the car, and the stress is longitudinal. It is tucked pretty far under the front, and isn't very visible from most angles. I didn't want to alter the clean lines of the car too much. But it does look good on the road, because it fills the gap between the under tray and the road.

Hi guys, well, the response is well and beyond my expectations, happy to read all the posts. This tells me there is interest. I did post the same topic on the USA/Canada website and there are a few interested buyers, 4 or 5, myself included. Now we need to source a MCV front splitter and find someone in China or Taiwan to make copies. I understand there could be one available in the UK and I know of one potentially available in the far away lands of AUS/NZ; maybe there is one even in North America, I could have bought one last year from Maserati in Canada for 5,700 CAD plus 13% tax (reduced from 15,000 CAD). But I'm not a fan of overspending :(

Need to move from this stage of would be nice to have to let's do something about it. First, must find someone who has it and is willing to lend it for the project; 2nd, need to find someone who has connections to an outfit interested in making copies. Once that is done and we have a price and shipping cost decide who's in and who's not.

I have a 2003 Coupe GT. I've googled and looked at the front pics for the 4200 GT, GranSport and MCV Victory. Easiest is for the GranSport, for me it would mean I have to replace the standard one piece front bumper with the GranSport bumper and add the MCV front splitter. I assume that has been done and it is possible, if anyone has the nitty-gritty please chime in. I hope it is not a big deal.

The bumpers are interchangeable but you will also require a new under tray and potentially wheel arch internal covers (or at least some modifications)

There is only a single part number for the wheel arch covers(the 3200 has a different one) so I guess it is just the under tray.

Why rule out having them made in the UK? It might be a bit more expensive but the quality is likely to be higher. I would be happy to lend my splitter to a reputable company in the UK but I would not allow it to be sent to China or Taiwan.

Absolutely not, I am glad there is a volunteer willing to lend his splitter for the cause. I live in Canada and have no connections in the UK to start looking for someone to manufacture it. I hope somebody on the list has such connections and is willing to run with it. There are 5 people on the North American forum who have expressed an interest, including myself. Between the two forums there should be at least 10 people interested. Of course if we have a quote from a shop and it is reasonable I would expect more people will show up

It would be great if the MC Splitter could be reproduced at an affordable price. I would be very interested in 2, possibly 3.

If the cost of Carbon fiber is high I wouldn't mind a high quality fiberglass Splitter as it could always be painted.

Big clap on the back for Team GCR offering to lend one for a template. There's bound to be someone on this great forum that knows a reputable company that could do the job in either material.

Made contact with a friend of mine, and he is interested. Currently busy with the F1 build, and supplying parts, but is certainly interested.

Hi guys, unfortunately no progress. For those who are still interested, there is the same topic on the maseratilife site. One member is trying to get it going but we need to know how many are interested so please let us know on that site. Thank you

Hello guys, if anyone is interested this topic is getting off the starting bloc on the US/Canada maserati life. There is a similar thread, under the same subject title and started by me => https://www.maseratilife.com/threads/mcv-front-splitter.126532/.

If you are still interested then please go to that site and express your interest. Everyone who is seriously interested will have to pitch in a deposit to borrow an original splitter from the owner to be sent for replicating. The more interested folks the less the amount to contribute for everyone will be.
