As three of my four wheels were kerbed, and having new tyres for the back needing to be fitted, I decided this was a good time to get the wheels fettled.
I wanted to change from the standard silver and did consider 'Charcoal / anthracite', or whatever Maserati refer to this colour as, but it's quite dark and 'sombre', so instead I went for a black base layer with flake then applied in the first lacquer coats.
These are the results. In some lights they have the darkness of 'charcoal' but in others they pick up the lustre of the Nuvolari bodywork.
The close-ups show the rear wheels with 'over-size' Falkens fitted. They hopefully add a bit of protection to the wheels, but I suspect not a lot.
The centre caps unavoidably take the paint differently, so they're a bit darker, which I wouldn't have chosen, but don't mind. I am going to paint the tridents red myself and will also do the same to the calipers in due course.
The work was carried out by the Wheel Specialists. They're a national franchise. I used the Nottingham branch and they were most helpful and efficient. In terms of quality and reputation, they do Graypauls custom work and had a set of 20" GT wheels in to be coated to gloss black.
Price-wise they aren't the cheapest and I ended up at £100.00 per corner, but this included various extra's and tyre disposal.
The good news is that they operate a referral program. I get a cr@ppy £20.00 gift voucher, but you get a 15% discount. You just need to mention my name. PM me if you want the details.
Hope this helps.
