So I'm watching what is probably my all time favourite movie today, and I notice the car at the beginning is UK registered. SVT 85L
Beautiful Rover 3l. Registered 1973, but no MOT history. How does that happen? Too old?

The online mot history only goes back to 2005/ 2006 i think.

Any records before that dont show online.

This particular vehicle has been with the same owner since 1989. Film prop or museum piece maybe but i suspect off the road except for filming for some time. Its been tax and mot excempt since 2018 so if it was off the road from 2006 to 2018 then it wont have any online mot records at all.

Looks like it has also been in France and crashed at some point in its life for film purposes.

Yes it was crashed quite badly. That's the movie I was watching. Starts in Venice.

Thanks for the explanation :)

That's a big heavy car to roll over :)

There was a big ramp. Not a totally convincing crash, but required for the plot.

Christmas before last Mrs C bought me the Blu-Ray special edition, but it was region A only. I treated myself to a multi-region player this weekend, so I can finally watch it. Totally gorgeous looking and just under 5 hours :)

It’s because DVLA only added to their computer system from about 1990 forward. Before that the data of mot was held as a certificate at the actual garage. I think this also is the same for V5’s, especially on cars that have been scrapped.

I found this out after talking to them about my old Renault 14 and how I can get the plate (I can’t).

They said the only way to get an old mot certificate pre 1990 is to go to the garage that did it and ask but she also said that the dvla told these garages they are not legally bound to hold them so most all have been destroyed.

I also asked about the VIN for said vehicle and that I had the last 6 numbers do you have the full 16 digit. She said no, we only have the last 6 also
