Hello Everyone,
I'm Russ from North Wales and I recently bought the Maserati 4200 registration: RK53FTN from @ravingfool and I believe formerly owned by @Matt82.
I've owned the car just over a week now and in all very happy as it covered the 230 miles drive from London to home without issue. I've got it booked in for a minor service at a 'All Italia' (https://allitalia.business.site/ Brymbo, N.Wales) whom by happy coincidence are a 35yr+ Italian specialist within 5 miles of my home address. Of the other nearby 'classic' garages neither wanted to touch it - "Take it to Ian Tyrrell" was one recommendation. Nothing against Ian Tyrrell but watching his YT channel I get the impression he'd charge more than a Maserati Dealership.
Unfortunately I'm currently driving round with a check engine light which may have been triggered by little to no fluid in the header tank after the long journey but as I'm currently awaiting an OBD2 scanner I can't be sure. Either way I've topped up with de-ionised water and will monitor as all temps and levels seem fine. I'm also hoping to see what colour the fluid is so I can match up with the correct 'CUNA 956-16' coolant, although I may add a coolant flush to the service next week. Perhaps one of the previous owners can advise what is currently in it?
Having just spent the morning removing the scuttle to clean the drain holes as per @conaero informative step-by-step there was a fair share of debris and the passenger side holes remain blocked so Lord only knows where the water is going. I have ordered some air duster cans hoping to blast them down the holes but suspect they may not be powerful enough so will also get some long drain/pipe cleaner type material. I've attached some photos for reference as it really is deceptive how much can accumulate and isn't obvious without removing the scuttle.
I also have a question with regards bodywork rates/prices so if anyone would like to chime in I'd be most grateful as I've got no reference for how much a couple of panels and a bit of fettling here and there should cost (see attached quote). Detailing isn't too horrendous at around £1k for a Stage 1 correction, dent removal and 3yrs paint protection coating, moreso to protect it from the elements than anything else. So all in all around £4k for a mild restoration, of which I've no idea is reasonable or unreasonable so any advice or past experience would be most welcome.
*UPDATE the colleague who recommended the paint shop said they might do a cash price as it's an old school friend, personally I don't have an issue with this as it's cosmetic and not really adding much to the value of the car (not that I plan on selling) so I'll take any saving in that department as opposed give it to the tax man. Also the air duster cans on the drain holes work a treat, although it pushed the sitting water back up towards the pollen filter so may have to replace that as it was otherwise dry.
