As a few of you know I'm looking for a GS or possibly a QP fairly quickly. What do u all think of the current crop for sale?
There's the 2 non-premiuim ads on PH, the one in Grigio Nuvolari/avorio in North Yorks plus the one at Graypaul in Nottingham which appear to be best value for me, The one at Graypaul takes my fancy. I love the interior but wouldn't want to buy it and get stuck with it as there's no one else who agrees. The other ones are all slightly cheaper but if I could get it for £31k I reckon it's decent value, just not sure about resale with colour combo. Personally I think it adds to it rather than detracts. QP's with a ZF gearbox are £36k which for me is a bit of a stretch so a GS is probably best. I could just buy my own back! Decisions, decisions.....

You got links to them Dicky?

When I was looking, I found GrayPaul to be very helpful. I dealt with James there and he was very down to earth. I'd put a call in to him as if the car he has now isnt right, he might know of others coming in? They certainly know how to prep a car too, the ones I saw there looked like new!

I looked at the 07 they had in in July and they'd spent a few quid getting that right - when you work it out, if they've just done a big service and chucked brakes on and a warranty, buying a car privately would have to be a compelling argument.

Each of the above had positives and negatives.

Graypaul - Postives are dealer reputation, car will be well prep'd, negatives are interior might be difficult to move on - Maserati interiors sometimes dont come across well in pics.

Private Nero/Nero - postives are its a colour combo that a lot of people like, only two prev owners, sensible miles. Negatives for me are that I think the owner hasnt owned it long - why? Private sale asking for pretty close to trade money (there a similar car in the trade for £30,900 at the mo), 31k miles - has the service just been done or is it due? I know it says serviced in Sept, but was that an annual? If so, 31k will still need doing. Private sale so very little come back. For me personally, I think the car is £2k too dear, even without an inspection.

Private Blue/Blue - positives are it a lovely looking colour externally, looks very tidy in the pics. Another formum member has looked at this so might be worth PMing him. Also supposed to have full Meridien history. Negatives, as above, is there a 31k service due or was this done recently? Again, I think its a little over priced and depending on what an inspection shows, I'd see its value at c£28k. I think a trader would be looking at offers of £25k or so, but you'd have better experience of this than most.

Private Grigio Nuvolari/Beige - I like the look of this one. Again, it looks dear compared to dealer cars but it does look like its been well looked after. I'd want to know more about the service history, but on the surface, it looks nice. Negatives for me are that again, I think its a bit dear.

To support that, IMO, if you buy the dealer car at £32,850, you wouldnt expect to be spending any money on it in, say, the next 6 months, and you'd get a warranty (I think the advertised GP price includes a £1500 warranty from memory). So, take that off the price, you're at £31,350. If the car you look at has a 50% worn clutch, will need a couple of tyres and is also due a service, you straight away can add another £1500 without worry, so taking the GP car down to £29,850. How much is the peace of mind worth? For me, I would put it at a couple of grand, but lets say a grand, that makes a comparable car to the GP one worth £28,850 in my eyes. However, good luck telling that to a private seller!

Also, its worth remembering that GS prices hold firm for a lot of people purely because they can wait for a buyer.

Ramble over.

Woody,

No ramble, great to think that my thoughts were exactly the same. A main dealer car has got to be worth for £3k ish above a private so the others are all worth £28-£29k. Lots of hassle, servicing, sorting tyres, possible faults, so the GP one at £31k is decent value. I love the colour in and out so if it's not too offensive to others, might be a goer.

Dicky you can n9t go far wrong with a dealer car and the good Maserati warrenty so worth paying a bit more ... Out of the ones you have posted its the last one that does it for me and would be easier to resell later ...Love the interior.

Miles, that's very good of you to offer but they'll only do me a deal on it to buy tomorrow for their end of month figures. Thanks though.

I do like that colour combo Andy but have had one before and there's a few of those for sale. Wondering whether the 'different' blue is a bit too different and not certain how much I like it. The paint actually looks better on the private one which is the same exterior.

That grey is not nice inside ...

The DL one was same colour and spec as the one above..Just the wheels were the chromey shiny ones ... I now it was Anniversary blue as I drove it before the chap for MF came along and bought it.

After much deliberation, I'm going to leave it for now. Would be a hasty decision to get the blue one at Gp but if anyone else wants is he'll do it for £29600 with the remaining 8 month warranty. That's to buy tomorrow just serviced, new Tyres and brakes. I reckon it's a great deal but for me a stretch and the miles are creeping towards 40k so reluctantly I'll walk away and keep looking. Cheers to all for the advice. Think we've realised that the others are worth £28k and not £30k plus.
