Mystery panel on GTS near Accelerator Pedal

Guys,

There is a small missing patch of carpet to the right of the accelerator pedal on this 2010 GTS.

Looks like some electronics might be behind it. Any ideas what's behind it and/or why anyone would have needed to access it?

Yep, that is totally normal. Nice isnt it. It will be an access panel to the ECU or the like!

A tin of satin black is called for here I feel!

If your buying used check the interior trim for peeling.

Mine went on the Glove box, fog light switches, knee roll and a few other bits.

It will get replaced under Trident warranty.

Other things to look out for are the brakes, make sure they are 100%, take it up over the tonne and press hard and soft so see if there is any brake judder.

Also check for worn half shaft splines.

Reverse hard, then go forward and listen for a 'Chinque' coming from the back axle.

Then the usual stuff, tyres (£1200), clutch (£2k+), brakes (£3k all round)

Stone chips and check the paint on the boot lid in strong light. Being plastic, the paint seems to mark, swirl and scratch and suffers from bird lime stains.

Are brakes that cheap Matt?

You can get the pads (£700 from Maserati) for £200, good ones too, same as Porsche, but the discs are single fitment only and main dealer are about £700 each. I did find a place willing to do them for £500.

So front brakes from the main dealer are £700x3 - £2,100
Use your head, and you can have the same thing for £1,200

The rears, I have not checked but I have heard a figure of £3k banded around for complete brakes on the GTS.

Try and get one with the Ali pedals, asthetically it makes a huge difference in my opinion. (Which may not count for much ;) )

Totally agree if it's 100% the motor you want otherwise!

Any pics of the rest of the car?

That is really useful Matt, thanks. Do you have the Porsche pads parts number? Ferrari discs not work?

Any idea how long front pads last and whether discs will last two sets of pads?

Matt/Dan,

Apparently the car has an iPod connection. Do you know if the GTS also has an inbuilt hard drive to store data/songs onto whether as standard or as an option?

You were right about the kick plate in the picture Matt. It comes like that out of the factory (albeit with some kind of protective film on it) - nice!

Yes it does as standard (if it's a GranTurismo). Takes about 200 albums at it's standard compression rate.

Pleasure. I don't use an ipod so I have just loaded 100 CDs onto the hard drive. Works great.

I would have to ask my man, front pads don't have the usual 15mm plus of material, they are quite thin more like 8mm. I think he said from the Panamerica.

I have checked the Ferrari range and visually there are none similar. The GTS front discs are not solid, they have spokes in the middle.....so they warp when get hot, hum, great design that!

Thanks. As these cars get older then alternatives should present themselves. When I see all these 40-60k mile GTs for sale, I want to phone and ask how long the brakes lasted!

I wonder if that panel has a function like a wear panel, protect it with something instead of the carpet panel getting worn??

My thoughts too...its hard up against the wheel well so little room for much behind it.

Surely it is just allow your shoe to slide back and forth against the side wall without hindrance? All the better for mashing the pedal on the floor :)
